WOLF SPORTS PROJECTION

Justin Hunter | Free Agent WR

Justin Hunter (shoulder) has been placed on injured reserve.

Hunter worked as the team's No. 3 wideout on Monday night, but he was forced to leave the game after landing on his shoulder, and his season is now over. The former second-round pick caught three passes for 21 yards this year. He will now hit unrestricted free agency, and the Steelers could have interest in bringing him back on another short-term deal.

Justin Hunter (shoulder) did not return against the Chargers.

Hunter had a heck of an effort on a diving attempt for a deep ball to the end zone he really didn't have much of a chance to come down with, and unfortunately he wasn't able to return with the shoulder injury. Hopefully Hunter is OK moving forward, but we'll track his status throughout the week.

Justin Hunter leaves game with apparent hand injury.

Hunter landed awkwardly at the end of a lunging attempt for a would-be touchdown, and he looked to head to the locker room immediately after. It may have also been a shoulder injury. We’ll see if he can return, but Hunter had been working as the team’s No. 3 receiver before leaving.

Justin Hunter catches two passes in Week 8.

With James Washington inactive, Hunter worked as the No. 3 receiver for the Steelers, catching two passes for 15 yards against the Browns. The No. 3 receiver for Pittsburgh hasn't been a high-volume option this season, though, so Hunter isn't a recommended fantasy option right now.

Justin Hunter is inactive for Week 2.

Hunter is a healthy scratch, which indicates the strength and depth of Pittsburgh's receiving corps. Rookie James Washington could get a lot of time on the outside for the Steelers today against the Chiefs.

Justin Hunter catches one pass in Week 1 tie.

It went for six yards. Hunter was given a couple downfield opportunities, but he couldn't connect with Ben Roethlisberger. The big-bodied receiver isn't worth considering outside of deeper leagues, but he gets a tremendous matchup in Week 2 against Kansas City's cornerback group.

Ben Roethlisberger expects “big things” from Justin Hunter.

Antonio Brown and JuJu Smith-Schuster are obviously locked in as Pittsburgh’s top two receivers, but Hunter should not be counted out seizing the number three role. At the very least, he’ll likely mix in on offense. Just keep Hunter in mind, particularly in deeper leagues.

The Steelers re-signed Justin Hunter to a one-year deal.

Hunter is a very good teammate that contributes on special teams and will chip in on offense when called upon. It’s not surprising Pittsburgh wanted to bring him back. Hunter might push for more snaps on the outside this season, especially if the Steelers part ways with Martavis Bryant.

Justin Hunter scores on Christmas Day.

Hunter was targeted once against the Texans, but he made the most of it, catching a five-yard touchdown after he got open during a scramble by Ben Roethlisberger. Hunter isn't a fantasy option, but it's good to see him make plays like this, especially on Christmas.

Justin Hunter catches one pass in win over the Lions.

It was a seven-yard reception on a key third down, as Hunter saw some playing time with Martavis Bryant inactive. Even if Bryant were traded or made a weekly inactive, Hunter wouldn't be a fantasy option.

Justin Hunter scores 58-yard touchdown in preseason finale.

Hunter caught three passes for 75 yards and the score, which came from Joshua Dobbs. Pittsburgh has a bunch of talent at wideout, but the former first-round pick might have shown enough to stick around. We'll know within a couple days.

Justin Hunter doesn't catch a pass in Steelers' third preseason game.

Hunter had one target in the game, but Sammie Coates and Darrius Heyward-Bey didn't do much in the game either. Thursday's preseason finale will be big for Hunter.

Justin Hunter catches touchdown in exhibition against Atlanta.

Hunter had three receptions for 16 yards and the touchdown. His touchdown came late in the game on a curl route where he spun out of a tackle near the goal line and scored. Hunter is battling Sammie Coates (and possibly Darrius Heyward-Bey) for a roster spot with the Steelers.

Ben Roethlisberger is happy with receiver Justin Hunter.

According to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, Big Ben said "I don't want to get too excited too early, but I really like the presence that (Justin Hunter) brings." Hunter has been working with the first-team offense with Martavis Bryant still not fully reinstated and Sammie Coates out for a couple weeks after getting a knee scope. The 6'4" receiver is getting rave reviews at camp, reportedly taking advantage of his opportunity with the ones and catching more touchdowns in practice than the other receivers combined. It's a great sign to have your quarterback on your side, as Roethlisberger appears to be with the former second-round pick of the Titans in 2013. The Steelers are crazy deep at receiver, which might lead to none of them having consistent fantasy value outside of Antonio Brown.

Justin Hunter is signing with the Steelers, according to Jeremy Fowler.

Hunter gives the Steelers another big-bodied, athletic receiver for Ben Roethlisberger. With Martavis Bryant's status up in the air, Hunter will have a chance to compete with Sammie Coates and others for a starting spot on the outside, opposite Antonio Brown.

Hunter catches touchdown in Bills' victory.

It was a 16-yard score. A big receiver, Hunter has a chance to score in any given week, but is not a fantasy option. This offense is just Sammy Watkins and LeSean McCoy.
