The Steelers signed Kalen Ballage.
Ballage showed legitimate upside last season after earning a role for the Chargers, and he's an intriguing addition for the Steelers. Pittsburgh's offense has led to some fantasy gold for running backs over the years, and the team clearly wants to run the ball more in 2021. Ballage is someone to keep an eye on throughout the rest of the offseason and into the summer.
Kalen Ballage (ankle) is officially active for the Chargers.
After missing Week 12 due to his ankle/calf issue, Ballage is back and will re-join a Chargers backfield that now also has Austin Ekeler in the mix. We wouldn’t trust Ballage in fantasy lineups until we see how he’s used along with Ekeler and rookie Joshua Kelley.
Kalen Ballage (ankle/calf) is officially inactive for Week 12.
Ballage was banged up at the beginning of last week’s game, and he’ll now be out today against the Bills. Fortunately for the Chargers, Austin Ekeler (hamstring) is back after missing the past six games.
Kalen Ballage (ankle/calf) is officially listed as questionable for Week 12.
Ballage is banged up a bit from last week, but we expect he will be fine for Sunday against the Bills. The Chargers kickoff at 1:00 PM ET on Sunday, so fortunately Ballage’s status will be known that morning before games begin.
The Chargers signed Kalen Ballage to the practice squad.
The former Dolphins and Jets running back lands in a good spot to develop under former NFL running back Anthony Lynn in Los Angeles. Ballage has to learn the playbook, but he will look to work his way onto the active roster in the coming weeks.
The Jets released Kalen Ballage from the active roster.
Ballage seems like a good bet to land back with the Jets on the practice squad, but with New York likely getting Le'Veon Bell back from injured reserve very soon (as early as this week), he's off the active roster for now.
The Jets signed Kalen Ballage to the active roster.
Ballage was previously acquired by the Jets before a failed physical sent him back to Miami, but now Ballage is back with his former coach Adam Gase in New York to help pick up the slack following Le'Veon Bell (hamstring) landing on IR. Ballage isn't a highly recommended fantasy pickup just yet, but he's someone to keep an eye on.
Kalen Ballage failed his physical with the Jets due to a hamstring injury.
The trade will be voided and Ballage is headed back to Miami, though he’s likely to be released. New York could look to bring him back as a free agent, especially since La’Mical Perine is now dealing with an ankle injury.
The Jets are trading for Kalen Ballage.
Miami was said to be releasing Ballage last night, but the division rival Jets swooped in and offered a conditional late-round pick in exchange for the third-year running back. With the move, New York ensures Ballage would land with them instead of another team having a shot at him on waivers. This is good news for Ballage, who appears to have a believer in his former head coach Adam Gase (his coach during 2018 with the Dolphins). The Jets have a crowded backfield behind Le'Veon Bell, adding Frank Gore, La'Mical Perine, and now Ballage this offseason.
The Dolphins are releasing Kalen Ballage, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.
Ballage was a 2018 fourth-round pick by Miami, and he got off to a promising start to his career with 36 carries for 191 yards (5.3 yards per carry) and a touchdown as a rookie. But he couldn't get much going behind a struggling offensive line in 2020, averaging 1.8 yards per carry on 74 attempts. The Arizona State product will look to rejuvenate his career with a new squad. He's just 24 years old.
The Dolphins placed Kalen Ballage on injured reserve.
Miami claimed running back Zach Zenner in a corresponding move. Ballage was just injured in Sunday's win against the Eagles, and his season ends with 74 carries for 135 yards and three touchdowns along with 14 receptions for 63 yards in 12 games. Ballage will likely have to battle for a roster spot with the Dolphins next season.
Kalen Ballage (leg) has been ruled out for the rest of today's game.
Ballage left in the first half and is now out. He had just three carries for zero yards before leaving. Myles Gaskin and Patrick Laird will take over the backfield with Ballage out for the rest of today.
Kalen Ballage (leg) is officially questionable to return for the Dolphins.
Ballage suffered a non-contact injury while going out for a route, and he was down on the ground before eventually walking over to the sideline and into the medical tent. It appears this is worse than just cramping, but we'll update you when more information becomes available on his status.
Kalen Ballage gets 24 touches in Dolphins' win.
Ballage carries 20 times for 43 yards along with four receptions for two yards in the Week 10 win over the Colts. With Mark Walton suspended for four games, Ballage is the clear leader in the Miami backfield and will have an opportunity for a good number of touches. Clearly, the Dolphins had trouble getting much going on the ground, but the good news is that they stuck with it and Ballage ran hard. A matchup with the Bills next Sunday is more favorable, and Ballage is on the FLEX radar for Week 11 given his potential volume.
Kalen Ballage has a "real chance" to win the starting job in Miami, according to ESPN's Cameron Wolfe.
Ballage has taken the initial first-team snap ahead of Kenyan Drake in back-to-back practices, and head coach Brian Flores said that he's done a "great job" this offseason. We still have well over a month to go before the regular season, but this backfield is looking like it could be a split that favors Ballage as the preferred early-down and goal-line option that also has the athleticism to make plays in the passing game. The second-year back is sure to see his ADP skyrocket in the coming weeks, and it wouldn't be surprising if he is ranked as a top-30 option at the position come late August.
Kalen Ballage handles 13 touches in Week 17 loss.
Ballage rushed 12 times for 47 yards, also adding a one-yard reception. The rookie led the backfield in carries and yards, but it was a pretty even split with Kenyan Drake (11 carries for 43 yards), who also ended up leading the team in receiving (5/52). Ballage didn't see extended action until Week 15, and his first season ends with 36 carries for 191 yards (5.3 average) and one touchdown; he also caught nine passes for 56 yards. The 23-year-old will likely be a solid pick in the middle rounds of fantasy drafts next summer if Frank Gore doesn't return.
Kalen Ballage handles six touches in Week 16 loss.
Ballage was thought to be set for a heavy workload following Frank Gore's season-ending foot injury, but the rookie rushed just four times for ten yards, also adding two receptions for 39 yards. Buffalo can be attacked on the ground, but Ballage will carry definite risk for the season finale as he splits time in Adam Gase's offense.
Kalen Ballage breaks long touchdown in Dolphins' loss.
Ballage went untouched for a 75-yard touchdown against the Vikings, showing nice burst and speed to hit the hole and zoom for six. It was the rookie running back's first career touchdown, and overall he had a strong game with 12 carries for 123 yards and a touchdown along with one reception for -2 yards. When Frank Gore exited the game with an ankle injury, it was Ballage that led Miami's backfield as the primary ball-carrier, so that might continue over the final two games of the season if Gore remains out. Ballage is a good waiver-wire pickup, but his Week 16 matchup versus Jacksonville is difficult.
Kalen Ballage gets four carries against the Bills.
Ballage gained three yards on his four rushing attempts in the Dolphins' Week 13 win. The rookie running back is just a dynasty-league option for now.
Kalen Ballage caught two passes for negative-five yards in Sunday's loss to the Colts.
Ballage has just nine touches for 26 yards this season, so he is nothing more than a promising dynasty prospect heading into Week 13.
Kalen Ballage catches one pass in Week 10.
Ballage received some work in a two-minute situation with Kenyan Drake dealing with a shoulder injury and briefly leaving the game. The rookie running back caught one pass for six yards against the Packers. He's just a dynasty-league option for now.
Kalen Ballage gets three touches in Week 9.
Ballage had one carry for -2 yards and added two receptions (on two targets) for 17 yards versus the Jets. This was the most extensive action yet for the rookie running back, so he's not a reliable fantasy option at the moment.
Kalen Ballage gets one carry in Week 8.
Ballage was the wildcat quarterback on a third-down play in the first half, taking his lone carry five yards for a first down. The rookie running back is just a dynasty-league option for now, as he's mostly contributing on special teams and not getting much time on offense.
Kalen Ballage handles one carry in Week 5 loss.
It went for two yards. The rookie runner simply isn't getting the workload to make an impact behind Frank Gore and Kenyan Drake, but if nothing else, the fact that Miami isn't feeding Drake on the ground suggest that Ballage has a real chance to earn at least a backfield split as soon as 2019. Still, he doesn't need to be rostered in redraft leagues.
Kalen Ballage makes NFL debut in loss to the Patriots.
Ballage rushed once for three yards in the 38-7 defeat. Miami's fourth-round pick was a healthy inactive for the first three weeks of the season, but perhaps he will earn some more touches as the season progresses. Right now, fantasy owners should probably be looking towards 2019 for Ballage to pay dividends.
Kalen Ballage is inactive for Week 1.
Ballage missed some time this preseason with a concussion, but it's still a slight surprise that he's inactive. Kenyan Drake and Frank Gore were set to handle most of the backfield work regardless, though. The narrative that Drake's role was at danger because of Ballage can certainly be put to rest now.
Kalen Ballage is starting for the Dolphins tonight.
Ballage has cleared concussion protocol and is playing in the preseason finale against the Falcons. The fourth-round running back missed the last two preseason games with his concussion, and he'll look to play well tonight ahead of the start of the regular season.
Update: Kalen Ballage is still in concussion protocol.
Ballage is in full uniform for tonight's preseason game against the Ravens, but he's still in concussion protocol, which is a bit odd. Given his presence on the sideline in full pads, the rookie running back could be close to getting cleared. Perhaps he'll play in the preseason finale next week.
Kalen Ballage has cleared the concussion protocol and is in uniform for the Dolphins’ third preseason game.
Ballage was in the protocol during the week so his status was in doubt against the Ravens, but it looks like we will get our first look at Miami’s backfield with the rookie possibly rotating in behind Kenyan Drake and Frake Gore. It could be difficult for Ballage to make a big impact early in the season, but his upside makes him a worthy late-round flier behind the co-starters.
Kalen Ballage is in the concussion protocol.
Ballage likely suffered the concussion in practice, and now he's unlikely to suit up for Friday's preseason game versus the Panthers. This is a tough break for the rookie, as it probably puts a dent in his chances of carving out a sizable role to start the season. Hopefully he's feeling better soon.
The Dolphins have selected Arizona State running back Kalen Ballage with the 131st pick (fourth round) in the 2018 NFL Draft.
Miami continues to add pieces for Adam Gase’s offense. Ballage has a ton of juice for a 230-pound back, and he could really be a force if he plays with more power at the next level. He is a bit like former Eagles running back Correll Buckhater as a big back that can catch the ball and do damage in space. Even with Kenyan Drake and Frank Gore in the backfield, a rookie impact shouldn’t be discounted. Ballage is a high-upside pick in dynasty leagues.
