WOLF SPORTS PROJECTION

Kenjon Barner | Buccaneers RB

The Buccaneers are signing Kenjon Barner to the practice squad.

With Giovani Bernard (hip/knee) on injured reserve, Barner is solid depth for the running back room in Tampa Bay. Barner has plus third-down ability and can contribute on special teams if he gets the call up to the active roster.

Kenjon Barner | Buccaneers RB

The Buccaneers have designated Kenjon Barner (groin) to return from injured reserve.

Barner could return for the NFC Championship Game this weekend, and he'd likely slide right back in as the team's primary returner. The veteran has been out since getting injured in Week 16.

Kenjon Barner | Buccaneers RB

Kenjon Barner has been suspended four games for violating the NFL's policy on substances of abuse.

Barner has contributed on special teams for Tampa Bay, and he also saw the field on offense in Week 4 due to injuries at running back. The veteran will now be out until November.

Kenjon Barner | Buccaneers RB

Kenjon Barner (concussion) has been ruled out for the rest of today.

Barner took a huge hit toward the end of the first half, and he's now officially done for the day. Hopefully the versatile running back is feeling better soon.

Kenjon Barner | Buccaneers RB

The Ravens are signing Kenjon Barner, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

Baltimore is set at running back, but Barner could potentially replace De’Anthony Thomas (opt out) as the team’s punt returner. Barner isn’t currently on the fantasy radar.

Kenjon Barner | Buccaneers RB

Kenjon Barner (concussion) has been ruled out for Week 4.

Ito Smith is good to go with his concussion, and the Falcons say one of Brian Hill and rookie Qadree Ollison will be active as another running back this week. Hopefully Barner is feeling better soon.

Kenjon Barner | Buccaneers RB

Kenjon Barner is in the concussion protocol.

Atlanta's main returner will hopefully get cleared in time for Week 4, but that's obviously not a guarantee. Barner has recorded one offensive touch so far this season (a four-yard carry in Sunday's loss to the Colts).

Kenjon Barner | Buccaneers RB

The Panthers placed Kenyon Barner (knee) on injured reserve.

Barner was mostly a special-teams contributor for the Patriots and Panthers this season, so he doesn’t have a ton of fantasy value heading into the offseason. Teams will be interested in the Oregon product as a real-life contributor, though.

Kenjon Barner | Buccaneers RB

Kenjon Barner (knee) is officially listed as doubtful for Week 17.

Barner will likely be ruled out on Sunday, which could lead to rookie receiver D.J. Moore returning punts for Carolina.

Kenjon Barner | Buccaneers RB

Kenjon Barner catches one pass against the Falcons.

Barner gained three yards on his one Week 16 reception. He also did a nice job on kick and punt returns again, but made the highlight reel after taking a big hit from Falcons punter Matt Bosher on a kickoff. Outside of leagues that reward points for return yardage, Barner is not a recommended fantasy option in Week 17.

Kenjon Barner | Buccaneers RB

The Panthers claimed Kenjon Barner.

Barner started his career with the Panthers after being drafted in the sixth-round in 2013, and he rejoins the franchise to help backup Christian McCaffrey. The Oregon product might be able to carve out a nice role in the offense, especially with C.J. Anderson released earlier this week, but none of Carolina's backup running backs are fantasy options behind workhorse Christian McCaffrey.

Kenjon Barner | Buccaneers RB

The Patriots released Kenjon Barner, according to ESPN's Field Yates.

Meanwhile, the team is activating second-round rookie cornerback Duke Dawson from injured reserve, so releasing Barner creates roster space for the move. Perhaps Barner will be back with the Patriots, who are currently on their bye week, at some point, but the offense has been using Cordarrelle Patterson at running back behind Sony Michel and James White. Barner offers special-teams value in addition to his ability to contribute on offense.

Kenjon Barner | Buccaneers RB

Kenjon Barner gets one carry against the Packers.

Barner gained four yards on his lone Week 9 rushing attempt. Cordarrelle Patterson has emerged as an excellent option at running back during Sony Michel's absence, and Barner hasn't gotten many opportunities. He's more of a real-life contributor than a fantasy option right now.

Kenjon Barner | Buccaneers RB

Kenjon Barner rushed twice for four yards in Monday night's win over the Bills.

Barner saw just a handful of snaps, as Cordarrelle Patterson operated as the main compliment to receiving back James White. The Oregon product won't be a reliable fantasy option in Week 9 against the Packers.

Kenjon Barner | Buccaneers RB

Kenjon Barner gets ten carries against the Bears.

After Sony Michel went down with a leg injury, Barner stepped in and received his most extensive action with the Patriots yet. Barner carried ten times for 36 yards in the Week 7 victory. The Oregon product ran hard, and he could have a sizable role in New England's offense moving forward assuming Michel misses time. New England could also bring in another running back via a trade or free agency, but Barner is worth a look as a waiver wire pickup this week.

Kenjon Barner | Buccaneers RB

Kenjon Barner handles three touches in win over the Chiefs.

Barner rushed three times for 16 yards, but this is obviously a backfield that’s mostly split between Sony Michel and James White. The Oregon product is just a name to keep in mind in the case of an injury.

Kenjon Barner | Buccaneers RB

The Patriots have released Kenjon Barner.

New England officially activated Julian Edelman to the active roster ahead of tonight's game, and the release of Barner is a corresponding move. This is a bit of a surprise, as it leaves Sony Michel, James White, and fullback James Develin as the only active running backs on the roster. Expect a heavy dose of Michel and White with Develin mixing in tonight. Barner might land back with the Patriots at some point.

Kenjon Barner | Buccaneers RB

Kenjon Barner handles three touches in win over the Dolphins.

On his first offensive touches of the season, Barner rushed three times for 11 yards. With Rex Burkhead (neck) on IR, the Oregon product is someone to keep in mind in the case of an injury to Sony Michel or James White, but he's not a fantasy option at this point.

Kenjon Barner | Buccaneers RB

The Patriots signed Kenjon Barner.

Barner, who was signed and then released by New England earlier this month, will help pick up the slack after Rex Burkhead (neck) was placed on injured reserve. Like Burkhead, Barner can contribute on both offense and special teams, but he's a different style of offensive player. Barner is probably more comfortable as a receiver than a potential 15+ carry back like Burkhead was, and Barner is also more likely to contribute as a punt returner. Barner is not a recommended fantasy option at the moment, but he's someone to keep an eye on.

Kenjon Barner | Buccaneers RB

The Patriots are releasing Kenjon Barner, according to Ian Rapoport.

New England needs room for the recently-signed Cyrus Jones, so Barner is getting released after one week with the Pats. The former Panther and Eagle should get a shot somewhere else soon as running back depth with value on special teams.

Kenjon Barner | Buccaneers RB

The Patriots are signing Kenjon Barner, according to multiple reports.

Barner worked out for the team last week, and now he's signing after a season-ending knee injury suffered by Jeremy Hill—along with the release of receivers Riley McCarron and Chad Hansen. McCarron was the primary punt returner for the Pats to open the year, and Barner seems like a perfect fit for the role, which he did well for the Eagles last season. Barner is not a fantasy option quite yet, but he's someone to keep an eye on.

Kenjon Barner | Buccaneers RB

The Panthers have released running back Kenjon Barner.

Barner tried latching on this summer where he started his career in 2013, but Carolina is going elsewhere at the position behind Christian McCaffrey. The 28-year-old should get looks on the open market as a running back and returner.

Kenjon Barner | Buccaneers RB

Kenjon Barner is signing with the Panthers, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Carolina actually selected Barner in the sixth round of the 2013 draft, and he spent his first NFL season there. As Rapoport says, Barner had interest from Buffalo, but the Panthers are probably a better opportunity after the knee injury to Panthers running back Fozzy Whittaker earlier this week. Barner helped the Eagles win their first Super Bowl last season as he provided depth on offense and made great contributions on special teams as a returner. Look for Barner to mix in some on offense in Carolina while competing for return duties. He's not a recommended fantasy option at the moment.

Kenjon Barner | Buccaneers RB

Kenjon Barner gets two offense touches in Week 17.

Barner had one carry for -2 yards and one reception for 14 yards. The returner that'll mix in on offense will look to make some big plays in the postseason.

Kenjon Barner | Buccaneers RB

Kenjon Barner gets two carries in Week 15.

Barner gained 21 yards on his two attempts, including a run of 18 yards. If he had more opportunities, Barner would be a very good fantasy option; but he's currently in a committee and can't be trusted in lineups.

Kenjon Barner | Buccaneers RB

Kenjon Barner scores in Week 11.

Barner made a superb catch on the first offensive drive of the game for the Eagles, as he got both feet in and controlled the ball on a back shoulder throw down the sideline for 22 yards. Then, Barner punched it in from four yards for his first touchdown of the season. Barner didn't receive any offensive touches after the first series, but it's good to see him contribute when give the opportunity.

Kenjon Barner | Buccaneers RB

Kenjon Barner sees two touches in Week 8 win.

Barner caught two passes for 11 yards, but did not receive a carry. The Eagles' punt returner is a good real-life player, but not a fantasy option with a limited offensive role.

Kenjon Barner | Buccaneers RB

Kenjon Barner gets two carries in Week 7.

He picked up four yards on his two attempts, as he wasn't on the field was much with Wendell Smallwood (knee) back in the lineup. Barner did have a nice 22-yard punt return that he nearly broke all the way, and he's only a recommended fantasy option if you play in a league that gives points for returns.

Kenjon Barner | Buccaneers RB

Kenjon Barner gets six touches in Week 6.

Barner carried five times for seven yards and caught one pass for nine yards in the win over Carolina. He also continued to return punts, but he fumbled his only return which was luckily recovered by the Eagles. Barner is a special teams and offensive contributor for the Eagles, but he doesn't get enough work to be in fantasy lineups.

Kenjon Barner | Buccaneers RB

Kenjon Barner flashes potential in Week 5 win.

Barner rushed five times for 23 yards in his first game of the season with the Eagles (he started the season on the Chargers practice squad), but the highlight was a 76-yard punt return that he nearly took to the house. Barner got his chance will Wendell Smallwood injured, and he could be active every week with his performance on Sunday. He's a real-life contributor, but you can probably ignore him for fantasy purposes.

Kenjon Barner | Buccaneers RB

The Eagles signed RB Kenjon Barner.

Barner was with the Eagles from 2014-2016, so he has a lot of familiarity with the team and will fit right in. The former Oregon Duck has some ability to take some of the work left by Darren Sproles, and he probably fits that role better than LeGarrette Blount, Wendell Smallwood, and Corey Clement do. He's worth a look in deep PPR leagues.

Kenjon Barner | Buccaneers RB

The Chargers cut running back Kenjon Barner.

Barner didn't make it with the Chargers as a backup behind Melvin Gordon, but the former Oregon star will receive interest from other teams. Barner formerly played for the Eagles and the Panthers.

Kenjon Barner | Buccaneers RB

Kenjon Barner is signing with the Chargers, according to Ian Rapoport.

With Danny Woodhead now in Baltimore, Barner may be the backup behind Melvin Gordon. Barner was very effective on his touches in Philadelphia, and he will be a good addition to the Chargers' backfield.

Kenjon Barner (hamstring) unlikely to play on Thursday night against the Giants.

It seems unlikely he will be back this season.

Kenjon Barner | Buccaneers RB

Kenjon Barner injures hamstring in Eagles's loss.

Barner had three carries for six yards and two catches for 25 yards before leaving with what looked like a bad hamstring injury. Barner is averaging 4.8 yards per carry on the year, but might be done for the season with two games to go.
