WOLF SPORTS PROJECTION

Kevin Hogan | Bengals QB

The Bengals promoted Kevin Hogan to the active roster.

Hogan will backup Ryan Finley tonight against the Steelers before likely being sent back down to the practice squad, which is allowable due to the COVID-based rules for 2020.

Kevin Hogan | Bengals QB

The Broncos are releasing Kevin Hogan.

This could be good news for undrafted rookie Brett Rypien, but Denver might ultimately make another move at the backups spot behind Joe Flacco. Hogan should find a new team soon.

Kevin Hogan | Bengals QB

The Broncos re-signed Kevin Hogan.

A rookie quarterback could still be drafted, but look for Hogan to be Joe Flacco's backup quarterback in 2019. Hogan is still just 26 and will look to continue to develop; he might eventually get a chance to compete somewhere for a starting job.

Kevin Hogan | Bengals QB

The Broncos claimed Kevin Hogan, according to multiple reports.

This means Denver now has four quarterbacks on the roster, which could potentially be bad news for Paxton Lynch. Hogan might work his way into the backup role if the team likes him enough.

Kevin Hogan | Bengals QB

The Redskins have traded for quarterback Kevin Hogan.

Cleveland is sending over a sixth-round selection (No. 205 overall) and Hogan to Washington in exchange for a sixth-round selection (No. 188 overall). Hogan requested a trade yesterday, and his wish was granted as he lands in an excellent spot with Jay Gruden and the Redskins. The former Stanford quarterback might push Colt McCoy for the backup role behind Alex Smith, though McCoy is a favorite of Gruden's. Hogan went to high school in Washington, D.C., so it's pretty cool for him to return home in the next step of his NFL career.

Kevin Hogan | Bengals QB

Kevin Hogan struggles in first career start as Browns lose to the Texans.

Hogan was 20/37 for 140 yards, one touchdown, and three interceptions. He also rushed five times for 36 yards. Cleveland was held to a field goal through the first three quarters, but they finally found the end zone on offense with a late touchdown pass to Seth DeValve, but the game was far out of reach. Hue Jackson has yet to decide the starting quarterback for next week's game against the Titans, but he said it's between Hogan and rookie DeShone Kizer. It's unclear what needs to happen for Cody Kessler to get a chance after he impressed as a rookie, but he appears locked in as the third quarterback.

Kevin Hogan | Bengals QB

Hue Jackson names Kevin Hogan as the starting quarterback for Week 6 against the Texans.

With DeShone Kizer leading the league in interceptions and turnovers, this move seemed to be coming after he was benched for the second time this year in Sunday’s loss to the Jets. Hogan has performed well in relief, and he’ll get his chance to prove something and keep the starting job for the rest of the season. The former Stanford quarterback is athletic and can run a little bit, but he’s not a fantasy option right now.

Kevin Hogan | Bengals QB

Kevin Hogan nearly brings Cleveland back in relief of DeShone Kizer.

Hogan was 16/19 for 194 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception in the 17-14 loss to the Jets. The first touchdown was an amazing one-handed grab by tight end David Njoku, and the second was a 41-yard catch-and-run by Duke Johnson. This is the second time Kizer has been benched for Hogan, and the 24-year-old has clearly outplayed him in each appearance. Head coach Hue Jackson going with Kizer over Hogan or Cody Kessler as the starter could be a job killer. We would assume Hogan gets the start in Week 6 for the 0-5 Browns, but he's not a recommended fantasy option.

Kevin Hogan | Bengals QB

Kevin Hogan throws a touchdown in limited action.

Hogan replaced DeShone Kizer as he struggled with a migraine, and the backup was 5/11 for 118 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. He also rushed once for five yards. Hogan hit first-round pick David Njoku for a 23-yard touchdown in the second quarter and was responsible for the team's only TD in Week 2, but Kizer came back to the game in the second half, ending Hogan's day. He'll be the #2 again next week against Indianapolis.

Kevin Hogan | Bengals QB

Kevin Hogan will be the backup quarterback on Sunday for the Browns.

Cody Kessler, who opened the offseason as the starter, seems to have fallen out of favor with the coaching staff. He arguably outplayed starter DeShone Kizer this preseason, but now he's the third quarterback in Cleveland. Kevin Hogan can be more of a runner, so perhaps the team has some packages for him to run. Also, Kessler might end up being a trade candidate at some point.

Kevin Hogan | Bengals QB

Kevin Hogan was 13/18 for 180 yards and two touchdowns in the Browns' preseason finale.

Hogan's late-game play in August was a big reason for the team going 4-0 in the preseason. It would be surprising if the team didn't release Brock Osweiler and keep Hogan as the third quarterback behind DeShone Kizer and Cody Kessler.

Kevin Hogan leads Browns to victory on Saturday night.

After three points through three quarters of play for Cleveland, the Hogan-led offense scored 10 points to defeat the Buccaneers in the third preseason game. Hogan was 7/13 for 82 yards and one touchdown, also adding 19 yards on five carries. The second-year pro should settle in as the third quarterback if the team moves on from Brock Osweiler.
