WOLF SPORTS PROJECTION

Kyle Allen | Texans QB

Washington is placing Kyle Allen on the reserve/COVID-19 list.

Allen saw limited action in Week 14 while Taylor Heinicke was banged up and showed flashes of his upside, but now he lands on the COVID list. Heinicke is expected to be fine for Week 15, but hopefully Allen is feeling OK and gets taken off the COVID list soon.

Kyle Allen | Texans QB

Washington has tendered Kyle Allen as an exclusive rights free agent.

Allen was expected back in Washington next season, and the team now has both him and Taylor Heinicke currently on the quarterback depth chart ahead of the new league year. Unless the team is able to find a way to acquire a big-time option via free agency, trade, or the draft, there is a decent chance the reigning NFC East champions will have an open quarterback battle this summer.

Kyle Allen | Texans QB

Kyle Allen (ankle) is expected to miss four months.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport is on the timeline, and it sounds like Allen's injury isn't quite as bad as it could have been. He suffered just a small fracture in his ankle along with the dislocation. Allen's season ends with 610 passing yards, four touchdowns, and one interception along with seven carries for 26 rushing yards and one rushing touchdown in four games. We wish Allen the best of luck on his recovery.

Kyle Allen | Texans QB

Kyle Allen is expected to undergo ankle surgery, according to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler.

The procedure would put the rest of Allen's season in jeopardy, but the outlook probably could have been worse considering how bleak things appeared when he went down yesterday. If so, Alex Smith would be the starter for Washington, and he should only get better with more game reps. In four starts this year (two of which he left early), Allen went 1-3 with 610 yards, four touchdowns, and one interception.

Kyle Allen | Texans QB

Kyle Allen leaves game with apparent leg injury.

A cart is coming out for Allen, and it does not look good at all. Alex Smith is now coming into the game for Allen, making his second appearance of the season as he continues his miraculous comeback to the field. It looks like Allen could be dealing with a long-term injury, but hopefully it's not as bad as it looks. We wish him a speedy recovery.

Kyle Allen | Texans QB

Kyle Allen is expected to start in Week 6.

It sounds like Allen is just sore from yesterday, but he’s expected to be fine moving forward. Alex Smith will return to the backup role for now, but it won’t be surprising if he makes starts this season as he continues on his amazing comeback.

Kyle Allen | Texans QB

Kyle Allen has been cleared to return for Washington.

[UPDATE: Smith is currently remaining in the game for Washington.] We expect Allen will be back in there for Ales Smith when Washington gets the ball back in the second half, but it was still great to see Smith in there and looking healthy in his first action since the career-altering leg injury in 2018.

Kyle Allen | Texans QB

Kyle Allen heads to the locker room.

Allen took a helmet-to-helmet hit from Rams cornerback Jalen Ramsey, so it appears he's being checked out for a head injury. Veteran quarterback Alex Smith is on the field for the first time since his devastating 2018 leg injury, so this has been quite the comeback and story for Smith to get back after going through a lot over the past couple of years. We'll update you as more information becomes available on Allen's status.

Kyle Allen | Texans QB

Kyle Allen leaves game after hit to the head.

Allen was hit on a personal foul, so Alex Smith is in at quarterback to complete his remarkable comeback after a horrific leg injury suffered in 2018. Hopefully Allen ends up being OK and is able to return.

Kyle Allen | Texans QB

Washington is starting Kyle Allen at quarterback.

After four games, Dwayne Haskins is being benched for Allen, who has more familiarity with Washington's offense led by coordinator Scott Turner. Washington feels the subpar NFC East is wide open, and they feel Allen gives them the best opportunity to win games. Allen is not a highly recommended fantasy pickup.

Kyle Allen | Texans QB

The Panthers are trading for Kyle Allen.

This is a logical deal for both sides. Allen gives the Redskins someone they are familiar with to backup Dwayne Haskins, as Allen worked with Ron Rivera and Scott Turner in Carolina. Meanwhile, the Panthers had an overflow of quarterbacks after signing former XFL star P.J. Walker this morning. If Haskins is injured or happens to struggle in 2020, Washington would have someone they feel comfortable with inserting into the quarterback spot on offense.

Kyle Allen | Texans QB

The Panthers re-signed Kyle Allen.

This was fully expected, as Allen is an exclusive rights free agent, and he made 12 starts for Carolina last season. The talented former undrafted quarterback has played pretty well through two NFL seasons, and he's the early favorite to be the backup quarterback for the Panthers in 2020.

Kyle Allen | Texans QB

Kyle Allen is expected to be benched, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

We'll let you know if anything changes, but third-round rookie Will Grier is expected to get an opportunity to start the final two games of the season for the Panthers. If Allen doesn't play again this season, his year ends with 3,027 passing yards, 17 passing touchdowns, and 15 interceptions in 12 starts. Allen was up and down this season, but he showed flashed early in the year in particular, and he should be in the mix for Carolina's starting quarterback job in 2020 if the team parts ways with former league MVP Cam Newton.

Kyle Allen | Texans QB

Kyle Allen will start for the Panthers in Week 8.

Panthers head coach Ron Rivera says that Cam Newton is still rehabbing his foot, and the team is not rushing him back. ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that Newton was expected to be ready for this week after Carolina's bye, but it looks like either that was false or the Panthers are using Newton's foot as a cover for deciding to stick with Allen. This Sunday against the 49ers is a very difficult matchup for Allen and the Panthers offense, so it'll be interesting to see if the team goes back to their former MVP if Allen struggles and loses his first game as a starting quarterback in the NFL.

Kyle Allen | Texans QB

Kyle Allen (shoulder) is out for the rest of today's game.

The Panthers are dominating against the Saints, so it's not surprising that Allen's day is done late in the fourth quarter. The undrafted rookie quarterback had an outstanding first career start against the No. 1 seed in the NFC playing starters on defense. Allen was 16/27 for 288 yards and two touchdowns along with five carries for 19 yards and a touchdown on a quarterback sneak. The first passing score was a perfect back-shoulder type of throw to tight end Ian Thomas in the back of the end zone, and the second passing score was a beautiful deep ball to Curtis Samuel for 53 yards. It was just one game, but the former No. 1 high school recruit basically showed that he can play in the NFL after an up-and-down college career. Allen is probably the favorite to backup Cam Newton in 2019.

Kyle Allen | Texans QB

Kyle Allen plays well in brief Week 16 stint.

Taylor Heinicke left against the Falcons briefly with a left elbow injury, and the undrafted rookie stepped into the game and went 4/4 for 38 yards. The former No. 1 overall high school recruit flashed some of the ability that makes him a very intriguing player, and the Panthers have to like what they saw from him during his brief time in the game. There's a chance he gets more time in Week 17 with the Panthers not in playoff contention.

Kyle Allen | Texans QB

The Panthers promoted Kyle Allen to the 53-man roster.

The underfed rookie quarterback will back up Tyler Heinicke with Cam Newton (shoulder) out. Allen is an extremely talented former No. 1 high school recruit that might be able to develop into a starting quarterback, but he's off the fantasy radar for now.
