Lucky Whitehead | Jets WR

The Jets waived-injured wide receiver Lucky Whitehead.

It's unclear what the injury is for Whitehead, but he didn't practice this past week and did not play in Friday's preseason game. Whitehead was in the mix as a returner for the Jets. If no team claims Whitehead, he'll revert to the Jets injured reserve.

Lucky Whitehead is out 4-6 weeks with his broken foot, according to Ian Rapoport.

Rapoport says they are getting another opinion to see if surgery would speed the recovery. On the optimistic side, four-week recovery would mean Whitehead would be ready to practice for Week 2 of the season. However, it's also possible the Jets place Whitehead on the PUP list, which would cost him the first six weeks of the season.

Jets receiver/returner Lucky Whitehead broke his foot.

Head coach Todd Bowles said Whitehead will be out for "an extended period of time," but they are unsure if he needs surgery. Lucky has been anything but that in recent weeks, as he had his dog kidnapped (but thankfully returned), he was wrongfully charged with shoplifting, he was cut by the Cowboys because they didn't believe him, and now this. Whitehead, who appeared set to be the Jets primary returner, will almost certainly start the season on the PUP at the very least.

The Jets have claimed Lucky Whitehead off waivers.

It's great to see Whitehead claimed after an unfortunate past couple of days that involved an arrest warrant wrongly being put out for him on a shoplifting charge, then the Cowboys cut him (he thinks because they didn't believe he was telling the truth). Whitehead could slot right in as the Jets' primary return man, and he could get involved on offense more than he did with the Cowboys, as the Jets have a young receiving group with spots being competed for.

All charged were dropped for former Cowboys receiver Lucky Whitehead, according to Ian Rapoport.

The arrest warrant for a June shoplifting charge was rescinded. The authorities had the wrong guy, as the person arrested apparently said he was Lucky Whitehead while giving his DOB and SSN, according to multiple reports. Unfortunately, the Cowboys decided to go ahead and cut Whitehead yesterday and if they waited another half a day, Whitehead might still be on the team, so he has a real reason to be upset. It's been a bad couple of weeks for Whitehead, who also had to deal with his dog being taken for ransom last week. Luckily, he has his dog back, and hopefully another team picks him up and gives him an opportunity to compete in training camp.

The Cowboys are cutting Lucky Whitehead, according to Ian Rapoport.

Rapoport sent out a series over tweets over the last ten minutes, explaining that Whitehead claims he was not in Virginia at the time of the incident. Rapoport also reports the flight records show Whitehead's flight didn't arrive until six hours after the shoplifting incident. Then minutes later, Rapoport tweeted that the Cowboys have cut Whitehead. It's a tough break for Whitehead, if indeed he was not even in Virginia at the time of the incident. He also had his dog stolen last week before having it returned to him, but it must have been a very sad and stressful situation and this doesn't help. In a way, the Cowboys cutting Whitehead before the situation gets sorted out makes it feel like they are trying to send a message to other guys more than anything.

There is a warrant for Lucky Whitehead's arrest for shoplifting, TMZ reports.

According to TMZ, Whitehead stole from a convenience store. He was arrested on June 22 and didn't show up to his ordered July 6 court date. Whitehead will reportedly show up to court in early August, and he could be facing some type of discipline (likely just a fine, if anything) from the league for this situation. Whitehead also had the unfortunate and odd situation last week, where his dog was taken for ransom and he pleaded for help to bring it home. It seems like he has a good heart, but he needs to make smarter decisions.  Whitehead is normally the Cowboys' return man, but rookie receiver Ryan Switzer could fill that role, so Whitehead needs to be careful off the field.
