WOLF SPORTS PROJECTION

Matt Schaub | Retired QB

Matt Schaub is retiring from the NFL.

Drafted by the Falcons in the third round of the 2004 draft, Schaub obviously had a very good career while sticking around all this time, and he ultimately ended his career in Atlanta spending the past few years with the team that drafted him. Schaub found most of his success as a starter with the Texans, compiling a 46-42 record while being named to two Pro Bowls and leading the league in passing in 2009. He also played for the Raiders (2014) and Ravens (2015). Schaub's career ends with a 64.2% completion percentage, 25,467 passing yards, 136 passing touchdowns, and 91 interceptions. We wish Schaub the best of luck in the next stage of his life.

Matt Schaub | Retired QB

The Falcons are expected to pick up Matt Schaub's option, according to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero.

It is a $2 million option for Schaub, but the Falcons could ultimately decide to go in another direction for their backup quarterback spot this offseason when free agency and the draft roll around. The veteran Schaub is a safe option Atlanta can be happy with if they stick with him heading into the regular season.

Matt Schaub | Retired QB

The Falcons have signed Matt Schaub to a two-year contract extension.

Schaub hasn’t really seen the field behind Matt Ryan in Atlanta, but he’s undoubtedly a strong presence in the quarterback room as a veteran with playoff experience. The Falcons are unlikely to spend anything other than a late-round pick on a signal-called next month.

Matt Schaub | Retired QB

Matt Schaub plays in Week 5.

With the game in-hand and Matt Ryan beat up throughout the day, Schaub came in relief at the end of the loss to Pittsburgh. The veteran quarterback was 5/7 for 20 yards in the game. At such a deep position, Schaub wouldn't be a highly-recommended fantasy option if Ryan were to miss time.

Matt Schaub | Retired QB

According to Adam Schefter, Matt Schaub will be back with the Falcons on a two-year, $9 million contract.

This happened right after the report that Brian Hoyer will sign with the 49ers, eliminating the only possible spot Schaub might be able to start. He'll return to backup Matt Ryan with the Falcons and gets a pretty good payday.

Matt Schaub | Retired QB

Matt Schaub wants to start somewhere in 2017.

Schaub told ESPN's Vaughn McClure that he wants "opportunity" to start somewhere in the NFL. Obviously it will not be in Atlanta, so Schaub likely won't be back with the Falcons. There has been speculation that new 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan might bring Schaub in as a bridge gap option to start in front of a young quarterback. We'll keep an eye on Schaub this offseason.
