WOLF SPORTS PROJECTION

Maxx Williams | Cardinals TE

The Cardinals are re-signing Maxx Williams.

Along with fellow free-agent Zach Ertz, Williams will be back at tight end for the Cardinals in 2022. Williams will mostly contribute as a blocker, so he's unlikely to have much fantasy value as long as Ertz is on the field. This will be Williams' fourth season with the Cardinals.

Maxx Williams gets carted off against the 49ers.

Williams suffered an apparent leg injury on a second-quarter reception, and unfortunately it looks like his day is certainly done. A bunch of players from both teams went over to Williams while he was on the cart and offered in well wishes. Williams has been a key contributor in Kliff Kingsbury's offense early this season.

Maxx Williams | Cardinals TE

Maxx Williams (ankle) has been ruled out for the Cardinals.

Williams had a season-long 42-yard reception on his lone catch of the afternoon against the Eagles. Arizona and Philadelphia are both now down reserve tight ends in today's game.

Maxx Williams | Cardinals TE

The Cardinals activated Maxx Williams from injured reserve.

Williams has been out since late September with his ankle injury, but he’ll be back for tomorrow’s matchup with the Dolphins. Williams will have a role in Kliff Kingsbury’s offense, but it’s difficult to trust the big tight end in Week 9 fantasy lineups.

Maxx Williams | Cardinals TE

The Cardinals placed Maxx Williams (ankle) on injured reserve.

Williams will now miss at least the next three weeks while he deals with his ankle issue. The big tight end should stay on the waiver wire in redraft leagues.

Maxx Williams | Cardinals TE

The Cardinals signed Maxx Williams to a two-year contract extension.

Williams has 11 receptions for 139 yards and one touchdown this season, with a whopping eight games with exactly one reception. But Kliff Kingsbury and his staff like Williams' ability as a blocker, and they've decided to award him for his play. Williams is not a recommended fantasy pickup just because of the contract extension, but he is still just 25 and has the ability to get more involved as a receiver.

Maxx Williams | Cardinals TE

The Cardinals officially signed tight end Maxx Williams.

The 2015 second-round pick of the Ravens didn't quite have the impact as a receiver that was expected when he was selected in the draft, but he's a solid blocker that'll at least help out there for the Cardinals. The tight end spot for Arizona is pretty wide-open, so perhaps Williams will work his way into a starting role. Williams is off the fantasy radar for now, though.

Maxx Williams | Cardinals TE

Maxx Williams catches one pass in playoff loss.

It went for eight yards. Williams will now enter unrestricted free agency after catching 63 passes across four season with the Ravens. He is unlikely to open 2019 with fantasy value.

Maxx Williams | Cardinals TE

Maxx Williams rushed once for no gain in Sunday's win over the Browns.

Williams wasn't targeted. The 24-year-old ends his fourth regular season with 16 receptions for 143 yards and one touchdown behind Mark Andrews and Hayden Hurst.

Maxx Williams | Cardinals TE

Maxx Williams catches one pass against the Bucs.

Williams gained six yards on his lone Week 15 reception. Williams isn't a highly-recommended fantasy option entering championship weeks.

Maxx Williams | Cardinals TE

Maxx Williams scores in Week 14.

Williams caught a pass in the flat for a ten-yard touchdown on his lone reception against the Chiefs. It was the only reception by a Ravens tight end in the game, but Williams is not a recommended fantasy option right now.

Maxx Williams | Cardinals TE

Maxx Williams catches both targets in Ravens' loss.

Williams gained eight yards on his two receptions against the Browns. He's part of a four-tight-end committee and is off the fantasy radar for now.

Maxx Williams | Cardinals TE

Maxx Williams catches all five targets in Ravens' win.

Williams gained 51 yards on his five receptions against the Steelers, including a key third-and-one conversion on a play where he lined up off the ball next to the center and snuck out for a wide-open long reception. The former second-round pick isn't a highly-recommended fantasy option in a crowded tight end group, but it's good to see him contributing on offense. He's on pace for 48 receptions this season.

Maxx Williams | Cardinals TE

Maxx Williams catches one pass in Week 3.

Williams gained five yards on his lone reception. He's not a reliable fantasy option at the moment.

Maxx Williams | Cardinals TE

Maxx Williams catches three passes in Ravens' loss.

Williams gained 31 yards on his three receptions, catching all three targets. He also lined up at fullback and gained seven yards on his lone carry to convert a first down. Williams isn't a reliable fantasy option, but it's good to see the former second-round pick contribute for Baltimore.

Maxx Williams | Cardinals TE

Maxx Williams catches all three targets in Week 1.

Williams gained 32 yards on his three receptions versus Buffalo. It's difficult to trust Williams in fantasy lineups.

Maxx Williams | Cardinals TE

Maxx Williams scores in 23-16 win over Indianapolis.

It was a four-yard score in the fourth quarter where he found himself wide open on a play-action pass. The 23-year-old finished with two receptions for six yards in the victory, and Baltimore now just needs to beat the Bengals next Sunday to earn a playoff spot. Williams isn’t a fantasy option.

Maxx Williams | Cardinals TE

Maxx Williams catches one pass in Week 12.

Williams got the call on a nice play-action pass that got him wide open in the flat for a 12-yard gain. It was Williams' only target of the night, and he's not a viable fantasy option right now.

Maxx Williams | Cardinals TE

Maxx Williams catches three passes in Week 9.

This was Williams' fourth game of the season, and it was his most productive. He gained 29 yards on his three receptions (three targets) against the Titans. Williams isn't a fantasy option, but it's good to see him out there and healthy—hopefully he can remain on the field for Baltimore.

Maxx Williams | Cardinals TE

Maxx Williams caught four passes for 21 yards in Sunday's win over the Browns.

He also rushed once for two yards. Williams was a check-down target for Joe Flacco on Sunday, but Benjamin Watson (eight catches for 91 yards) is the tight end you'd want to own on the Ravens. Williams can stay on the waiver wire heading into a matchup with Jacksonville.

Maxx Williams | Cardinals TE

Maxx Williams catches 40-yard pass in second Ravens preseason game.

Williams lined up in the backfield and was hit in the flat on a play-action fake before breaking a tackle and weaving through much of the defense, showing some surprising shiftiness. He had two receptions for 48 yards total in the game. Benjamin Watson is probably the starter, but the 2015 second-round pick Williams has a chance for a nice role if he's healthy.

Maxx Williams | Cardinals TE

Ravens head coach John Harbaugh said tight end Maxx Williams underwent a surgery that no football player ever has.

It's unclear what exactly was done to Williams' knee, or what exactly was wrong that he needed to have this unique surgery. The good news is that Williams is expected to be good to go for training camp, but the Ravens might have the most crowded tight end group in the league, and it might be hard for Williams to break through.
