Orleans Darkwa is "100 percent" recovered from torn Achilles suffered in October.
Darkwa says he's ready to sign with a team, and we'd think there'll be interest around the league for the 27-year-old. The former Giant was out of the league last year after dealing with a couple of leg issues including the torn Achilles, but it'd be a surprise if another team doesn't at least give him a chance to win a role this summer.
Orleans Darkwa had minor leg surgery this morning, according to Ian Rapoport.
Rapoport says it was recommended by his doctor. It was a procedure which removed the plate in his leg he had inserted last offseason. Having the plate removed should help Darkwa, and considering he had career-highs across the board in 2017, teams' interest in him could pick up soon. Rapoport notes Darkwa has had "several offers" so far. It's also worth noting that players that sign starting today do not count against a team's compensatory pick formula.
Orleans Darkwa houses 75-yard run in win over the Redskins.
Darkwa rushed 20 times for 154 yards and the touchdown, which came on the game's first possession. Washington didn't have much of a run defense with over 250 rushing yards allowed on Sunday, but it was a great finish for Darkwa nonetheless. The 25-year-old finishes the season with 171 attempts for 751 yards (4.4 yards per carry) and five touchdowns. An unrestricted free agent, Darkwa will probably struggle to find a starting role in 2018.
Orleans Darkwa plays behind Wayne Gallman in loss to Arizona.
Darkwa rushed six times for just 10 yards, as New York couldn't get anything going on the ground. We'd expect the Giants to feature Gallman in the season finale, so Darkwa will be a risky fantasy play in Week 17.
Orleans Darkwa scores in Week 15.
Darkwa couldn't get much going against the Eagles, carrying nine times for seven yards while adding a nine-yard reception, but he did convert a carry at the goal line for a touchdown. The score wasn't really enough to make it an above average fantasy performance for Darkwa, who should be clearly behind rookie Wayne Gallman for backfield touches over the final two weeks of the year.
Orleans Darkwa gets 12 touches in Week 14.
Darkwa had ten carries for 29 yards and two receptions for 15 yards against the Cowboys. He was dealing with an illness entering the game, but rookie Wayne Gallman received more touches and out-performed him. It's possible interim head coach Steve Spagnuolo thinks Gallman is a better back and should get more time, so Darkwa is a very risky FLEX option for Week 15.
Orleans Darkwa (illness) is active for Week 14.
Darkwa was listed as questionable with an illness coming into today, but we fully expected him to be out there against the Cowboys. He's in the FLEX conversation, but you'll probably need a touchdown for Darkwa to deliver in the first week of the fantasy playoffs.
Orleans Darkwa (illness) is listed as questionable for this week.
We would expect Darkwa to be fine for Sunday against the Cowboys, but his status is still something to keep an eye on. But sure to check back in on Sunday morning if you're planning on having Darkwa in your lineup for Week 14.
Orleans Darkwa scores against Oakland.
Darkwa carried 14 times for 32 yards and a touchdown while adding one reception for -1 yards in the loss. Cleary, the touchdown saved his fantasy day, and he might need another score next week against the Cowboys to deliver FLEX value.
Orleans Darkwa gets 12 touches versus the Redskins.
Darkwa again started the game for the Giants, carrying 11 times for 30 yards while adding a nine-yard reception. Playing in a bad offense that's struggling to get much going, Darkwa is just a weaker FLEX option in Week 13 against the Raiders.
Orleans Darkwa scores against Kansas City.
Darkwa tied a season-high in touches in the Week 11 win, carrying 20 times for 74 yards and a touchdown while adding two receptions for 16 yards. The score came by the goal line and helped make it a very good fantasy day for him. He'll be in the FLEX conversation against the Redskins in Week 12.
Orleans Darkwa handles 16 touches in loss to the 49ers.
Darkwa rushed 14 times for 70 yards and caught two passes for 18 yards. He looked pretty good, but we'd still say Wayne Gallman (three carries for 22 yards) is the best back on the roster. Darkwa will be difficult to trust in a potential blowout against the rested Chiefs next Sunday.
Orleans Darkwa handles 18 touches in blowout loss.
Darkwa rushed 16 times for 71 yards and caught two passes for eight yards. The Giants starter did well to receive the touches he did in a 51-17 loss. He gets a good matchup against San Francisco next week, but Darkwa is probably better left on the bench or waiver wire outside of deeper leagues.
Orleans Darkwa gets 12 touches against Seattle.
Darkwa carried nine times for 35 yards and added three receptions for 13 yards in the Giants' loss, as they couldn't build on the great rushing performance against Denver a week ago—Seattle wasn't going to be beaten by the running game of the Giants. New York has a bye before facing the Rams in Week 9.
Orleans Darkwa explodes against the Broncos.
The Giants made changes to both the play-caller (Ben McAdoo to Mike Sullivan) and offensive line (multiple players switching positions) and it definitely worked for at least one game. Denver’s run defense was shutting down the likes of Melvin Gordon, Ezekiel Elliott, and LeSean McCoy on the ground, but Orleans Darkwa ran 21 times for 117 yards against them. He also added a 13-yard reception. Darkwa is looking like he could be in line for 20 carries per week moving forward, but the Seahawks are likely going to gear up to stop the run in Week 7. He’s a FLEX option.
Orleans Darkwa scores in Week 5 loss.
Darkwa played well against the Chargers, carrying eight times for 69 yards with a 23-yard touchdown. He also had a three-yard reception. Darkwa's touchdown was on a nice run from the shotgun, but he didn't get much work after that and might be battling his back issues still. He would be a decent pickup with the Giants likely to go more run-heavy after the injuries to their receivers, but his health is a question mark and could allow rookie Wayne Gallman to run away with most of the carries.
Orleans Darkwa (back) was limited in practice today.
Darkwa missed the first two days of practice last week before being limited on Friday and being ruled out for the game on Sunday. He's progressing, but we'll see if he can play this week against the Chargers.
Orleans Darkwa is inactive for Week 4.
Rookie Wayne Gallman could finally be getting his opportunity, and he'll look to make the most of it against the Buccaneers. Darkwa will try to get healthy for a week from now against the Chargers.
Orleans Darkwa (back) is officially questionable for Week 4.
Darkwa was a limited participant in practice today after missing Wednesday and Thursday, so there's a chance he plays. If not, Clemson rookie Wayne Gallman would likely be active and get some playing time.
Giants RB Orleans Darkwa (back) doesn't practice on Wednesday.
It's still early in the week, so hopefully Darkwa is able to practice and then play on Sunday. He might have a chance to steal more work in the backfield if he's healthy.
Orleans Darkwa gets eight touches in Week 3.
Darkwa carried seven times for 22 yards, with his long of 20 accounting for most of the success on the ground for him, and he also had an 11-yard catch on his only target. Darkwa isn't a fantasy option until he starts getting more touches.
Orleans Darkwa gets three carries in Week 2.
Darkwa looked good on his carries, gaining 17 yards on them and brining some energy to the run game. Darkwa also had a three-yard reception against the Lions. He's not a fantasy option getting only a few touches per game.
Orleans Darkwa rushed three times for 14 yards in Sunday night's loss to Dallas.
Darkwa was the Giants' most-effective runner with a 12-yard carry, but he isn't worth a roster spot as a backup on a bad offense (dating back to last season). He probably won't see more than a handful of touches next week against the Lions on MNF.
Orleans Darkwa plays in Giants' fourth preseason game.
Darkwa carried six times for 40 yards and had a nine-yard reception. It looks like he'll be the primary backup behind Paul Perkins, but he could get some carries at the goal line for the Giants this season. Darkwa is just a late-round flier right now, though.
Orleans Darkwa scores in Giants' third preseason game.
Darkwa had seven carries for 21 yards, including a touchdown at the goal line. The great news for Darkwa is that he received a goal line carry with the first-team offense. He might not get all the goal line carries for the Giants, but he looks to be the preferred option there. He's worth a selection at the end of fantasy drafts in deeper leagues.
Orleans Darkwa gets four carries in preseason game.
The third-year back picked up 11 yards on his touches. It appears he is not really pushing Paul Perkins for the lead back role in the Giants offense, which he'll need to be to deliver fantasy value in 2017.
Orleans Darkwa picks up 18 yards on three carries in preseason opener.
Darkwa outperformed starter Paul Perkins, who couldn't find much running room against the Steelers. Darkwa is a very good bet to make the final roster for the Giants, and he could get more playing than people anticipate this season.
