WOLF SPORTS PROJECTION

Russell Shepard | Retired WR

Russell Shepard has announced his retirement from the NFL.

Shepard announced the decision on his 30th birthday, as he will hang up his cleats after seven years in the league. Mostly a contributor on special teams since entering the NFL as an undrafted free agent out of LSU, Shepard caught 60 passes for 847 yards and six touchdowns in career, also adding three carries for 28 yards. We wish Shepard the best in his post-playing career.

Russell Shepard | Retired WR

Russell Shepard has a foot sprain, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Rapoport says this puts Shepard's Week 4 status in doubt, and we expect he won't play this Sunday against the Redskins. The Giants have been decimated by injuries on offense this season, and Shepard is also a contributor on special teams. We'll update you if anything changes, but don't expect Shepard to practice this week.

Russell Shepard | Retired WR

The Giants re-signed Russell Shepard.

Shepard had ten receptions for 188 yards and two touchdowns for the Giants last season, providing some big-play spark for Pat Shurmur's offense. The 28-year-old is also a solid special-teams contributor, and he'll ultimately likely be a better real-life asset for the Giants than he will be an asset for your fantasy team in 2019.

Russell Shepard | Retired WR

Russell Shepard (ankle) has been ruled out for the season finale.

Shepard's season ends with ten receptions for 188 yards and two touchdowns, as he was solid as a situational big-play threat for the Giants in his first season with the team. Shepard will be a free agent this offseason, but we'd think the Giants will look at brining him back next year.

Russell Shepard | Retired WR

Russell Shepard (ankle) has been ruled out for Week 16.

Shepard didn't practice all week, so he's looking on the doubtful side of things for the season finale next Sunday against the Cowboys. Odell Beckham Jr. (quad) also remains out for the Giants, so Eli Manning is working with a thin receiving corps this weekend versus the Colts.

Russell Shepard | Retired WR

Russell Shepard caught two passes for 28 yards in Week 15 loss to the Titans.

Shepard saw more playing time with Odell Beckham Jr. (quad) out again, but the Giants couldn't get going in the rain. Fantasy owners should look elsewhere over the final two weeks of the season.

Russell Shepard | Retired WR

Russell Shepard leaves game with apparent leg injury.

Shepard appeared to get rolled up on and he hopped off the field under his own power. He's now being carted to the locker room, so his day is almost certainly done with under five minutes remaining. Before leaving, Shepard caught two passes for 28 yards.

Russell Shepard | Retired WR

Russell Shepard scores in win over the Redskins.

Shepard caught just one of his four targets, but it was an 11-yard touchdown. The veteran isn't on the fantasy radar for Week 15.

Russell Shepard | Retired WR

Russell Shepard scores in Giants' win.

Shepard caught a 49-yard touchdown from Odell Beckham Jr. on a trick play, as he was wide-open down the field and secured the catch for six. Overall, Shepard caught two passes for 59 yards and a touchdown. Shepard isn't a recommended fantasy option at the moment.

Russell Shepard | Retired WR

Russell Shepard catches one pass against the Eagles.

Shepard's lone reception in the Giants' Week 12 loss went for 29 yards. Shepard is more of a real-life contributor than reliable fantasy asset right now.

Russell Shepard | Retired WR

Russell Shepard (neck) is inactive against the Falcons.

Shepard was limited in practice during the week, so he could be close to a return. Bennie Fowler will be the Giants' third receiver along with Odell Beckham Jr. and Sterling Shepard tonight.

Russell Shepard | Retired WR

Russell Shepard (neck) remains limited in practice.

Expect Shepard to remain limited tomorrow, but we'll see how he's listed when the official injury report for the game is released.

Russell Shepard | Retired WR

Russell Shepard (neck) was limited in today's practice.

The Giants are probably looking for Shepard to step up as the clear No. 3 receiver with Cody Latimer on injured reserve, but we'll track his status throughout the week to see if he can play on Monday night.

Russell Shepard | Retired WR

Russell Shepard (neck) has been ruled out for Week 6.

Shepard has his best game of the season against the Panthers last Sunday, but he's not ready to play tomorrow night against the Eagles. Shepard was not a recommended fantasy option.

Russell Shepard | Retired WR

Russell Shepard caught three passes for 52 yards in Sunday's loss to Carolina.

Shepard had a long gain on New York's final drive to set up a go-ahead touchdown against his former team, but the Panthers were able to win it with a 63-yard field goal as time expired on the following possession. Now looking like the Giants' No. 3 receiver, Shepard is someone worth monitoring in deeper leagues heading into a matchup with the Eagles, but he can probably stay on the waiver wire in 10- or 12-team leagues.

Russell Shepard | Retired WR

Russell Shepard catches one pass against the Saints.

Shepard gained nine yards on his lone reception. If Cody Latimer remains out of the lineup, Shepard should continue getting a good amount of time on offense, but he's not a reliable fantasy option.

Russell Shepard | Retired WR

Russell Shepard is signing with the Giants.

Shepard made the announcement on his Instagram page, posting the Giants logo. This is a good spot for the former Buccaneers and Panthers receiver, as the Giants have a wide open depth chart behind Odell Beckham Jr. and Sterling Shepard at wide receiver. Shepard is likely to compete with Cody Latimer, Roger Lewis, and others for the third receiver spot.

Russell Shepard | Retired WR

The Panthers are releasing wide receiver Russell Shepard, according to the Charlotte Observer.

According to Joseph Person of the Charlotte Observer, Shepard requested his release, which the team granted. It will become official later today. Shepard is a key special teams player that probably wants a bigger role at receiver, which isn't going to happen in Carolina. Last season, Shepard caught 17 passes for 202 yards and a touchdown, and he spent his first four NFL seasons in Tampa Bay. He is likely to receive interest as a good amount of interest as a free agent.

Russell Shepard | Retired WR

Russell Shepard doesn't catch a pass in Panthers' playoff loss.

Shepard was targeted on a pass over the middle where it looked like he might have been interfered with, but the officials didn't throw the flag. Shepard is a good player to chip in on offense and special teams, but he's not a recommended 2018 fantasy option.

Russell Shepard | Retired WR

Russell Shepard caught three passes for 29 yards in Sunday's loss to the Saints.

Shepard has had a nice role to himself since Curtis Samuel went down for the season, but he hasn't surpassed 40 receiving yards or scored since the season opener. Keep Shepard on the waiver wire for the fantasy playoffs.

Russell Shepard | Retired WR

Russell Shepard catches three passes versus Miami.

Shepard didn't have a great start to the game, as he dropped a pass in the flat on a would-be first down on a third-down attempt. He did bounce back on the next series, though, making a nice catch for a first down. Overall, Shepard caught three of seven targets for 40 yards in the Monday night victory. With Curtis Samuel (ankle) potentially out beyond the team's Week 11 bye, Shepard might need to step up as the number two behind Devin Funchess, and he'd be a FLEX option in deeper leagues.

Russell Shepard | Retired WR

Russell Shepard sees just one touch in Week 9 win.

It was an 11-yard carry. Rookie Curtis Samuel looks like the biggest beneficiary of the Kelvin Benjamin trade, but even he had just four touches on a day where Cam Newton completed just 13 passes. Shepard should remain on the waiver wire.

Russell Shepard | Retired WR

Russell Shepard catches one pass in Week 8 win.

It went for 14 yards. Shepard was in a good spot against a banged-up secondary, but the overall offensive struggles for Carolina held the receivers back. He's not a fantasy option against the Falcons next Sunday.

Russell Shepard | Retired WR

Russell Shepard gets three targets against the Bears.

Shepard caught two passes for 20 yards. He's a valuable part of the offense for Cam Newton behind primary receivers Kelvin Benjamin and Devin Funchess, but Shepard's role isn't big enough to be a reliable fantasy option.

Russell Shepard | Retired WR

Russell Shepard catches two passes in Week 6.

Shepard was targeted six times in the game, but he only caught the two for 12 yards total. He's a contributor in real life to Carolina, but Shepard is not a recommended fantasy option.

Russell Shepard | Retired WR

Russell Shepard catches only target in Week 4.

Shepard gained 13 yards on his lone reception, and he's not a recommended fantasy option right now despite his contributions to the Panthers.

Russell Shepard | Retired WR

Russell Shepard catches 40-yard touchdown in win over the 49ers.

Shepard also had another 13-yard catch, but the highlight was obviously the score, as he found himself wide open on a cross, made a defender miss with a nice spin move, and sprinted to the end zone. The 26-year-old always seems to make some plays, but he's not a fantasy option in Week 2 against Buffalo.

Russell Shepard | Retired WR

Russell Shepard's deal with the Panthers can be worth $13 million over three years, according to Ian Rapoport.

With Carolina losing Philly Brown to the Bills, Shepard might be able to carve out a role in the Panthers receiving group. Shepard will surely be a help on special teams for Carolina.

Shepard catches two passes for 23 yards in Week 12.

It was actually good for third on the team for receiving in the game. Shepard should not be on fantasy rosters.

Russell Shepard | Retired WR

Russell Shepard caught three passes for 54 yards in the Bucs’ win over the Chiefs.

Shepard didn’t play the previous two weeks, and despite returning with a nice game, he shouldn’t be rostered for fantasy purposes.
