WOLF SPORTS PROJECTION

Ryan Mallett | Ravens QB

Ryan Mallett throws touchdown in relief of Joe Flacco in Week 7.

After Joe Flacco exited after taking a nasty hit in the second quarter, Mallett entered the game and threw a touchdown later in that drive on a short pass in the end zone to tight end Benjamin Watson. Overall, the Ravens were in control the entire game and ran the ball 40 times, and Mallett was 3/7 for 20 yards and a touchdown. There's no guarantee Flacco is cleared of his concussion for Week 9, but Mallett would not be a recommended fantasy option if forced to start.

Ryan Mallett | Ravens QB

Ryan Mallett was 3/8 for 19 yards and one touchdown in the Ravens' preseason finale.

Despite the score, Mallett's struggles this preseason continued. The Ravens are hoping this will be the last they see of him this year with Joe Flacco (back) expected to be ready for the regular season opener.

Ryan Mallett | Ravens QB

Ryan Mallett went 6/10 for 58 yards on Saturday night.

Getting the third-straight start for Joe Flacco, this was Mallett's best one yet. He hasn't necessarily played well this preseason, but the Ravens are 3-0 thanks to a suffocating defense, and all indications are that Flacco will be ready for the regular season. If not, Mallett would be an obvious downgrade to all skill-position players.

Ryan Mallett | Ravens QB

Ryan Mallett throws two picks in preseason Week 2.

The Ravens backup quarterback was 13/22 for 113 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions against Miami. Mallett flashed his arm talent, throwing a few pinpoint passes, but he also showed some inaccuracy, including on some short throws. With Joe Flacco resting his back, look for Mallett to take all the first-team reps in practice this week and start the third preseason game with the Ravens offense.

Ryan Mallett | Ravens QB

Ryan Mallett averages 3.2 yards per attempt in preseason debut.

Mallett was 9/18 for 58 yards, starting in the place of Joe Flacco (back). The former third-round pick has a rocket arm, but he just hasn't shown that he can be a quality quarterback in the NFL. If Flacco has a setback or takes longer than expected to recover, Baltimore should probably sign Robert Griffin III—or even Tim Tebow—to fill in, because they can't waste any regular season games with their ready-to-contend defense in a competitive AFC.
