WOLF SPORTS PROJECTION

Scott Tolzien | Retired QB

Scott Tolzien struggles in Week 1 start.

Tolzien was 9/18 for 128 yards and two interceptions, both of which were returned for touchdowns. The veteran quarterback was in a tough spot against a Wade Phillips defense, and he was replaced with Jacoby Brissett late in the game. Tolzien didn't have much help from his offensive line, but the Colts will probably go with Brissett next week as he gains more comfort with the offense. Either way, Indy is one of the NFL's worst teams for as long as Andrew Luck is sidelined. The season opener showed how great Luck is on a weak roster more than it showed the limitations of Tolzien.

Scott Tolzien | Retired QB

Scott Tolzien goes starts Colts' third preseason game.

Tolzien got the start again with Andrew Luck out, and he went 7/10 for 123 yards and an interception. He was effective and helped drive the first-team offense down the field against the Steelers before Frank Gore punched it in at the goal line. Stephen Morris played very well when he entered the game, but Tolzien is still probably the favorite to backup Andrew Luck. We'll see if Tolzien needs to open the season under center if Luck isn't healthy in time for Week 1.

Scott Tolzien was 22/36 for 205 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions in Thursday night's 28-7 loss to the Steelers.

Getting the start in place of Andrew Luck (concussion), Tolzien was actually pretty impressive. He made some nice throws, but took some big hits behind the bad Colts o-line, and wasn't helped by his receivers, who dropped a couple touchdowns. Tolzien will be backing up Andrew Luck next Monday night, but he probably earned some respect around the league for his performance on Thanksgiving.
