Best Teams To Use In Madden 19: Chiefs, Falcons Among The Best

It has been one week since the official release of Madden 19, so a lot of people have had some time to test out teams and find “their team” to use in the game. If you’re still struggling with a squad to use, these are my picks for the best teams in Madden 19.

10. Chicago Bears

Last season, the Bears were not an easy offense to use in Madden, even with Jordan Howard on the ground. This offseason, the Bears added wide receiver Allen Robinson, Taylor Gabriel, Anthony Miller, and tight end Trey Burton around second-year quarterback Mitchell Trubisky, so the offense should be a lot more fun both in real life and on the virtual gridiron. Defensively, Chicago added stud linebacker Roquan Smith, who can be used in Madden to make unrealistic interceptions in coverage.

9. Tennessee Titans

As is the case in real life, the receiving corps is basically the only concern for the Titans in Madden 19. The group remains largely the same with Corey Davis, Rishard Matthews, and Taywan Taylor, but they are all athletic options that can stretch the field in the game. Also, the addition of Dion Lewis gives the Titans a different look alongside Derrick Henry. Marcus Mariota has a low rating, but he can scramble around and make plays with his legs. The cornerback trio of Malcolm Butler, Logan Ryan, and Adoree’ Jackson leads a solid defense all around.

8. Minnesota Vikings

The offense-defense combination for the Vikings might be the best in Madden 19. There are Pro Bowl players littered throughout the defense, and cornerback Xavier Rhodes is among the toughest players to complete a pass on in the game—and the pass rush with Danielle Hunter and Everson Griffin doesn’t make things easy on low-rated offensive tackles. In Madden, Kirk Cousins isn’t a huge upgrade on the quarterback situation Minnesota had last year, but there are plenty of weapons at running back and receiver.

7. Carolina Panthers

Cam Newton has yet to grace the cover of Madden, but he remains a force in the series every year as a guy that can do serious damage multiple ways. Madden 19 makes scrambling to the sidelines and throwing on the run—unrealistically—much easier, so Newton can use his 97 throw power and 86 throw on the run for home-run plays. The backfield tandem of Christian McCaffrey and C.J. Anderson can both be on the field at the same time, and the defense led by Luke Kuechly can force turnovers with the best of them.

6. Philadelphia Eagles

The defending champs are the highest-rated team in the game, so they’re a popular pick this year for best team. The receiving corps for the Eagles led by Alshon Jeffery and Nelson Agholor isn’t quite as good in Madden 19 as it is in real life, probably because they didn’t put up huge individual numbers last season, but Zach Ertz is a weapon in the game. The defense is strong, with a deep cornerback rotation and two safeties that cover well. Overall, despite their rating, the Eagles are a better team in real life because the coaches get them to play well.

5. Los Angeles Chargers

Balance is a key to the Chargers in Madden 19. The defense has two elite pass rushers, a great trio of corners, and a solid linebacking corps; and the offense has one of the game’s best triplets in Philip Rivers, Melvin Gordon, and Keenan Allen. Second-year receiver Mike Williams can win jump-ball situations against smaller corners with low jump ratings, and you can also throw tight end Hunter Henry into the mix if you want to use players that are injured.

4. Pittsburgh Steelers

Ben Roethlisberger, Le’Veon Bell, and Antonio Brown make the Steelers go in Madden 19, just like they do in real life. Even in the game, Roethlisberger can be difficult to sack in the pocket. Bell might be the best big-play back in Madden. And Brown has elite ratings across the board. The upgrades at safety in the offseason make it easier to defend the middle and deep areas of the field with Pittsburgh.

3. New England Patriots

If the Patriots are mastered, there’s no offense that’s more unstoppable in Madden. The unique playbook puts an emphasis on getting the ball to receivers for positive yardage, and Tom Brady’s pinpoint accuracy ensures the ball is on the money. There’s also the monster tight end known as Rob Gronkowski and a plethora of backs to utilize, so it’s pick-your-poison going against New England. Pass rush is the concern on defense, but the Pats have a very good group of defensive backs.

2. Atlanta Falcons

With the addition of first-round receiver Calvin Ridley, the Falcons arguably have more talent now than they did in 2016. Whether that translates to real-life success is another story, but it will certainly translate to Madden 19. The play-action passes are devastating with Matt Ryan, especially if you get the run game going with Devonta Freeman and Tevin Coleman. On defense, the speed and athleticism of the Falcons translates well to Madden.

1. Kansas City Chiefs

Justin Houston and Eric Berry are a couple of stars that make Kansas City’s defense potent in Madden 19, despite it otherwise not being a strength on paper via the ratings. But the offense is what makes the Chiefs the top team to use in Madden 19. Patrick Mahomes has a rocket arm and plus athleticism, which makes him fun to use, and the Chiefs have excellent weapons around him in Kareem Hunt, Travis Kelce, Tyreek Hill, Sammy Watkins, and Chris Conley. Hunt and Kelce alone make it easy to use KC, but the receiving trio of Hill, Watkins, and Conley make them the most fun—and perhaps the most unstoppable—team to use in Madden 19.
