The trailer for the next edition of EA’s Battlefield war video game series is set to be released soon, but not a lot of information for the game has been revealed yet. A lot will be shown as EA Play and this year’s E3, but the trailer should give a good outlook when its released. Battlefield 1 released in October 2016, featuring World War I, and it’s possible EA decides to stick with that setting for the 2018 version of the game. But if not, there are certainly other points in history that would make for a great game.
Present day
Although Battlefield 1 was a huge hit set in WWI, the reset to the past might allow EA and DICE to get back to the modern day on a fresh start after Battlefield 4 was set several years into the future. A straight-up, super-realistic modern war game with a top-notch story mode and fun multiplayer could be the way to go, and it could go head-to-head with the Call of Duty series and its potential remastered edition of Modern Warfare 2, which has been so heavily rumored to release in 2018.
World War II
After going back to World War I and calling the 2016 game Battlefield 1, the safest prediction might be going to World War II. The success of past WWII games, along with the success of Battlefield 1 in a similar setting, makes it feel like the new game being set in the second World War would build a ton of hype and buzz. DICE and EA could build on what they did in 2016 and add some of the slightly better weapons developed in the time between WWI and WWII, and it could lead to an instant classic.
The American Civil War
Some will argue the Civil War should just be a DLC add-on and not a full standalone game, and there wouldn’t be tanks or heavy weaponry like that because they weren’t invented yet, but a Civil War game would still have a lot of potential. It’s a video game, so the weapons are never really realistic in terms of how easily they shoot, so some of the guns could be tweaked to make them just a notch below those in Battlefield 1.
The Napoleonic Wars and the War of 1812
This of course would be even farther in the past than the Civil War, but there would be so many moving parts and factions that a game based on the Napoleonic Wars could work. The importance of the Napoleonic Wars and its impact on the world is understated, and the War of 1812 in North America means there would be more than enough settings to make it work.
The Revolutionary War
Multiplayer might be really tough with the American Revolutionary War, but if you think about the strategy that could become involved with it, a Battlefield game could be a lot of fun. Executing tactics would take more teamwork than a game set in other times, but the challenge would be a big part of the game. Use of cannons could also be included, and it wouldn’t be all just firing muskets across lines. The best part of a Revolutionary War Battlefield would be a story mode, as it would have spectacular potential in telling the story of the United States gaining independence.
WW2 ftw
Don’t care. Want MW2 remastered
WWII
I personally want WWII, but Revolutionary War would definitely be sick for story mode.
plz be ww2
