Potential Casting Choices For Remaining Villains In ‘The Batman’

Jonah Hill reportedly passed on a role (likely as the Penguin or Riddler) in The Batman, but Matt Reeves and Warner Bros. quickly cast Paul Dano to play the Riddler in the film today. Dano joins Robert Pattinson as Batman, Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner Gordon, and Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman, but there are still some villain roles to be filled. Which actors could be cast for the five rumored remaining villains in The Batman?

Penguin: Stephen Graham

This is the easiest selection, and hopefully it actually happens for a part that’s almost certainly going to be very important in the film. Stephen Graham was already scary good as a mob boss as Al Capone in HBO’s Boardwalk Empire, and he has the stature (in terms of height around five-foot-five) and tough demeanor to play Penguin. Following up Danny DeVito from over 25 years ago in Batman Returns won’t be an easy task, but Graham might be able to give an unforgettable performance of his own.

Poison Ivy: Megan Fox

Keri Russell would also be an excellent option, as she’s a phenomenal actress that’s worked with Reeves in the past and has said she’d basically play any part for the director. But Megan Fox feels like a fit with the some of the other cast members as someone that arguably isn’t quite as accomplished in critically acclaimed movies as other potential options but is still a fantastic actress, nonetheless. Both Pattinson and Fox have starred in blockbuster series years ago and have the name recognition along with underrated ability.

Two-Face: Dominic West

This came down to Jon Hamm or Dominic West, and Reeves would probably get a lot of fanfare if he’s able to get either one for Harvey Dent. Good luck following up Aaron Eckhart, but West feels like he could give off some Tommy Lee Jones vibes—but likely a bit darker for this 90s-set movie that will hopefully be much better than Batman Forever.

Mad Hatter: James McAvoy

These next two parts might be the most difficult for Reeves to cast for The Batman, but James McAvoy would be quite the get for the Mad Hatter part. McAvoy played an intellectual-type role extremely well as part of one of his personalities in Split, and he certainly has the capacity to play this role. The Riddler was of interest for McAvoy, so maybe he’d be interested in the Mad Hatter if the script—and potential sequels—intrigues him enough.

Firefly: John David Washington

A big key for Firefly would be having a strong, memorable voice while behind the mask, and John David Washington would be perfect for that. Washington’s ability as an actor would help him deliver humor in the part while also having the range to seamlessly play any potential dramatic moments with class. There were rumors of a Harvey Dent casting for Washington, and that would be awesome too.
