The Best Movies In Theaters This November

The time for spooky movies is over for most people, though the “Day of the Dead” extends until tomorrow. While you might not want to sit inside and watch frightening flicks now that November is here, there are plenty of highly-anticipated movies coming out this month in what looks like one of the greatest movie months in recent memory. If you’re looking for plans in the buildup to the holiday season, the movie theater might be a good idea.

FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 3

Thor: Ragnarok

While the Marvel Cinematic Universe has never been close to as serious as DC, Thor: Ragnarok appears to be out of the norm as a movie that’s even more comedic in nature. It’ll go on to be very successful while getting a high score on Rotten Tomatoes, but it’s up to you if you’re into these Marvel movies or not.

LBJ

Woody Harrelson looks like he gives a brilliant performance as Lyndon B. Johnson in this one. The film goes through the story of LBJ, including the assassination of JFK and the circumstances surrounding it.

Last Flag Flying

From director Richard Linklater and starring Steve Carell, Bryan Cranston, and Laurence Fishburne, Last Flag Flying will clearly have among the best acting in any movie this year.

FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 10

Murder on the Orient Express

Based on the novel by Agatha Christie, and with a deep and star-studded cast, Murder on the Orient Express looks like it could be an instant classic. The weather is cooling down considerably soon, and this movie about a murder mystery on a train amid snowy conditions is perfect for this month.

Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri

If you’re looking for a dark comedy, Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri looks like it’ll be for you. It has an all-star cast, including Frances McDormand, Peter Dinklage, and Woody Harrelson that rivals Murder on the Orient Express’. It’s from In Bruges director Martin McDonagh. [TRAILER IS NSFW.]

Daddy’s Home 2

A sequel of a comedy featuring Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg while also adding Mel Gibson, John Litghow, and John Cena into the mix? Forget about it…

FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 17

Justice League

The tone of the DC universe appears to have shifted a bit after the release of the critically-acclaimed Wonder Woman, but hopefully the movies keep some of the grit they’ve always had. We saw Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman all together in Batman v. Superman, but this is the first time the Justice League is being united; though Superman hasn’t been seen in any trailers or promos—probably a good thing so it’s more of a surprise when he appears in the movie.

WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 22

Darkest Hour

And on Thanksgiving Eve, Gary Oldman stars as Winston Churchill during one of the worst times in the history of the world—World War 2. Another Oscar nomination (or a win) might be headed Oldman’s way for this one.
