After getting a teaser during last night’s thrilling Super Bowl between the Philadelphia Eagles and the New England Patriots, the full trailer for Solo: A Star Wars Story was released this morning on Good Morning America.
Starring Alden Ehrenreich, Emilia Clarke, Donald Glover, and Woody Harrelson, Solo is a part of the “Star Wars Anthology Series” and goes through some of the younger days of one of the universe’s most beloved heroes, including when he meets future co-pilot Chewbacca. In the trailer, Han Solo states that he has been kicked out of the flight academy and wants to be the “best pilot in the galaxy.”
Four teaser posters were also released after the trailer, featuring Han Solo (Alden Ehrenreich), Lando Calrissian (Donald Glover), Qi’Ra (Emilia Clarke), and Joonas Viljami Suotamo (Chewbacca):
The film has had its issues in production, with directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller getting fired for creative differences, but director Ron Howard was brought on as a steady hand that would tell the story as the executives running the show want it to be told. Despite the change, there is still a lot of hype for the latest Star Wars movie, as it has an excellent cast and introduces new characters we don’t know much about.
Overall, this trailer was good because it didn’t give away too much about the plot—which many trailers do today, though Star Wars has done a good job with their trailers since the Disney takeover. However, some might not be interested in a Han Solo story, given he’s already an icon that doesn’t need more of his story to be told. But the hope is Solo is an enjoyable film with heart, like Rogue One was.
Solo: A Star Wars Story hits theaters May 25, 2018.
