The Two Newest Star Wars Characters Look Promising

Fall is in full swing—though the weather might not currently indicate that in certain parts of the country—and it’ll be November and December before we know it. That means the next Star Wars movie, which releases on December 15, will be out in theaters. The official trailer for the film was released yesterday to much fanfare, with people set to buy tickets for the second installment of the newest trilogy.

In the trailer, a lot of action was shown, but not enough to give any big-time spoilers away from the movie. We know Rey and Kylo Ren will meet face-to-face again, and we know characters appear to have some critical, universe-changing decisions to make. Instead of speculating on stuff that you should want to see the movie for find out more about, we’re going to dive into something else from the trailer.

The characters.

There are two new animal characters that instantly pop out from watching the trailer. There’s the mini bird thing with Chewbacca, and there’s the ice fox thing—actually, several of them—in frosty conditions.

The bird is called a “porg,” and they were previously revealed in August. Here’s a high-quality image via Entertainment Weekly that was previously released.

And in the trailer, you can see the porg letting out a screech while alongside Chewbacca.

I think everyone can agree this new character will be a fan favorite. And I bet Disney could sell a ton of merchandise of the porg. Any child that sees the movie and sees a porg stuffed animal will instantly want it.

The other new animals, the ice foxes, appear to be fleeing from somewhere in the trailer.

Cool new characters like that being teased for a couple seconds in the trailer makes me only want to see the movie—and their roles in it—that much more.

They just better emerge from The Last Jedi undamaged and healthy.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi hits theaters on December 15.
