Somehow, it’s June. Summer should arguably have an official start date of June 1 and run all the way to September 1 and around the start of football season, so happy summer! A ton has happened over the past few months, and most would probably agree that 2020 is zooming by. Summer is also a prime time for television, which can be a nice switch-up as a break from a bunch of outdoor activities. These are among the top shows to keep an eye on from June through August.
The Politician
When: Friday, June 19
Where: Netflix
While Season 2 of The Politician is due out in just a few Fridays from now, there has not yet been a trailer released. (You can view the Season 1 trailer here.) The Politician is one of the shows from creator Ryan Murphy in his monstrous $300 million Netflix deal.
Yellowstone
When: Sunday, June 21
Where: Paramount Network
Some critics aren’t all-in on Paramount Network’s western drama Yellowstone yet, but most fans absolutely love it (as evident from its 4.9 Google audience rating—granted, with only 439 votes). Yellowstone is almost like Game of Thrones set in Montana, with realistic, unpredictable action and deep characters.
Perry Mason
When: Sunday, June 21
Where: HBO

Matthew Rhys (The Americans) is starring in promising HBO series Perry Mason, which will be an origin story on the classic stories from Erie Stanley Gardner. The acclaimed Tim Van Patten (directed episodes of several HBO series) is directing the series, which was created by Rolin Jones and Ron Fitzgerald with Robert Downey Jr. as an executive producer.
Doom Patrol
When: Thursday, June 25
Where: HBO Max/DC Universe
Doom Patrol is another show that hasn’t released its Season 2 trailer (Season 1 trailer here), but it also returns later this month. The DC series has a slight twist this year, as it’ll be releasing on the new streaming service HBO Max.
The Good Lord Bird
When: Sunday, August 9
Where: Showtime
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H-Tm63y-S4s
The trailer for The Good Lord Bird gives a pretty good idea of what the Showtime series will look like when it debuts this August, and it appears that the acting—headlined by Ethan Hawke—will be superb.
Space Force
When: Available Now
Where: Netflix
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l4mY2asIjWk
While the summer should perhaps officially start on June 1 instead of around June 21, most agree that the unofficial start of summer is Memorial Day, so we’ll throw Space Force in here after it hit Netflix last Friday. Steve Carrell leads a stellar cast, but the show is getting some brutal reviews from critics—it might just take some time for the series to find its position for launch.
Fargo
When: ???
Where: FX
Fargo’s release date is unknown because production was stopped due to the coronavirus. However, the fourth season of the hit FX dark comedy crime series was set to premiere on April 19, so we’d think things will get rolling again and the show will air sometime this summer. Season 4 stars Chris Rock, who told EW that the role is the “best part I’ll ever have.”
Yellowstone is excellent.
I still think Wes Bentley would have made a great Batman.
Phillip Jennings! Looks good.
