Randall Cobb | Free Agent WR

David Helman of DallasCowboys.com thinks Randall Cobb is going to be “amazing” this season.

Helman likes Cobb’s all-around ability to get open on shorter routes as well as stretching the field a little bit with his speed, adding: “He already has a good relationship with Dak, and he’s got Amari Cooper, Zeke Elliott and Jason Witten to keep defenses from focusing on him. If he can stay healthy, I think he’s going to be amazing in this offense.” This is worth noting because Helman might have some extra insight as a member of the Cowboys’ official website, and Cobb does seem like he has the playing style that would be a good fit with Dak Prescott. Cobb will turn just 29 later this summer, so he should have plenty left in the tank, and he should be one of the better late-round fantasy selections this year.

Marcus Simms | Jaguars WR

The Jaguars are signing undrafted wide receiver Marcus Simms, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.

Simms—who caught 87 passes for 1,457 yards and eight touchdowns in three seasons at West Virginia—was eligible for today’s supplemental draft but was not selected. However, Pelissero says that several teams were interested in signing Simms, so he will have a chance to make an impact in training camp for what looks like a wide open Jacksonville depth chart. For now, he’s just a name to monitor in deeper dynasty leagues.

D.J. Moore | Bears WR

D.J. Moore is looking to make a huge second year jump.

Obviously all players would love to improve each season, but it’s notable that Moore compared his potential jump to his teammate’s from last season, stating: “We saw the jump that Christian (McCaffrey) had from Year One to Year Two. I’m looking to take the same jump. I know [teammate Curtis Samuel] is looking to take the same jump from Year Two to Year Three. Everybody is just trying to get better.” While becoming one of the best players in the league at his position like McCaffrey is as a running back won’t be easy, Moore had a strong rookie campaign with 55 receptions for 788 yards and two touchdowns, so a jump to 1,000 receiving yards is very realistic. Moore’s confidence indicates he believes he’s ready to step up as a clear No. 1 receiver and will receive that opportunity from the Panthers; he and Samuel should be locked in as the top two on Carolina’s wide receiver depth chart this season.

Todd Gurley | Free Agent RB

Todd Gurley again expresses that he isn’t concerned about his knee.

The star running back talked to Gil Brandt and Alex Marvez of SiriusXM NFL Radio, and he said his time off during offseason training allowed him to just get him mind on football and get ready for training camp. Brandt then told Gurley that he and his co-host are not doubting Gurley, but that people from the outside are doubting him; Gurley responded by saying: “I don’t have nothing to prove, Gil… I’ve been doing this my whole life, so it’s like the same stuff for me over and over, you know? It’s just the same old stuff and I keep doing the same old thing, and I really just play my game.” The former Offensive Player of Year really doesn’t seem concerned about his knee, and he sounds like he’s expecting to be his usual self in 2019. Seeing Gurley have a fully healthy summer without getting much time off would be a positive sign, but he could be a major steal in the second round (or even the third round, in some cases) of fantasy drafts this year if these knee concerns have been overblown by people from the outside.

Sony Michel | Retired RB

Sony Michel (knee) expects to be ready for the start of training camp.

NFL Network’s Omar Ruiz caught up with Michel at this evening’s Gatorade Player of the Year ceremony, and the Patriots running back said he’s “working towards” being ready for the start of training camp on July 24, adding “that’s the goal to be ready for training camp.” Overall, the second-year player took the typical Patriots approach Bill Belichick would love to the questioning, declining to say whether his knee procedure this year is related to the issue from last summer, saying that “last year was last year. This is a whole new time. Anything can happen.” NFL Network’s Mike Giardi reported recently that Michel was making great progress from his knee scope, and it sounds like being ready the start of training camp should be a strong possibility for Michel. The Georgia product’s health will be one of the biggest storylines to keep an eye on this summer.

Jimmy Garoppolo | Rams QB

Jimmy Garoppolo says he will be “good to go” for the start of training camp.

Garoppolo’s rehab has apparently gone smoothly without any setbacks, but it wouldn’t be surprising to see San Francisco limit their starting quarterback during camp. This is clearly a great sign for a 2019 breakout, though, and Jimmy G is one of several late-round options that will have QB1 potential, especially if the young receivers (namely Dante Pettis and Deebo Samuel) step up.

Devin Funchess | Free Agent TE

The Colts believe they can help Devin Funchess break out in 2019.

Andrew Walker of the team’s official website writes, “much like the Colts did with tight end Eric Ebron in his first season in Indy in 2018, the thought is that Frank Reich and Nick Sirianni’s offense can help Funchess reach even newer heights in 2019.” The Colts were clearly high on Funchess during free agency, as the former Panthers receiver can earn up to $13 million on his one-year contract, and it sounds like Indy expects Funchess to be the clear No. 2 receiver opposite T.Y. Hilton, taking pressure off everyone as a big target. Also, Reich said of Funchess: “When I watch his tape, what I see is a big man who is really athletic. I like to talk about having route-running skill; this combination of having good feet, good instincts and good body control, and then what sometimes we refer to as body quickness. And Devin has all of that.” As Walker notes about Ebron’s breakout to lead the league in touchdowns among tight ends last season after a relatively disappointing start to his career with the Lions as a top-ten pick, Funchess could also be ready to play the best football of his career this season. Funchess has obvious double-digit touchdown upside in 2019.
