Sam Darnold has a fractured scapula, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

This might help explain why Darnold played so poorly last Sunday against the Patriots. Darnold is set to miss several weeks, with P.J. Walker stepping in as the starting quarterback for the Panthers beginning with this Sunday’s Week 10 matchup versus the Cardinals. After a solid start to the year for Darnold in Carolina, it’s been a nightmarish stretch, which ends with him injured again. Hopefully he’s feeling better soon and can return to put together a strong stretch to finish 2021—unless Walker plays well enough to keep the job.

The Buccaneers are signing Breshad Perriman.

Perriman is being signed to the Bucs practice squad for now, but he can get called up to the active roster at some point. The former first-round pick had the best year of his career in 2019 with the Bucs, posting a 36/645/6 line while working as a superb big-play threat; he had a scorching end to his season that year. This is an intriguing signing for the defending Super Bowl champions.

The Panthers are signing Matt Barkley.

Barkley had been with Tennessee, but he’s now signing with Carolina as more depth in the quarterback room. Sam Darnold (shoulder) is banged up right now, so Barkley could immediately be the No. 2 option behind P.J. Walker this weekend if the mobile backup draws a start.

The Jets placed Denzel Mims on the reserve/COVID-19 list.

The NFL continues to be hit with positive tests scattered around the league. Hopefully Mims is feeling OK and can rejoin his teammates soon.

The Patriots activated Jarrett Stidham from the PUP list.

Stidham had been on the PUP list with his back issue from the summer, and it’s good to see that he’s back to 100%. Mac Jones is now the future in New England, but Stidham will look to develop with the Patriots.

The Texans claimed Royce Freeman.

Freeman will help make up for the Texans trading away Mark Ingram a couple of weeks ago. The Oregon product is someone to watch in deeper leagues in particular.

The Jets have placed Tyler Kroft on injured reserve.

Kroft went down last Thursday night with a lung laceration, but he fortunately isn’t expected to miss the remainder of the season. Look for Ryan Griffin to take most of the snaps at tight end over at least the next three games.
