Join now >The Cardinals placed A.J. Green on the reserve/COVID-19 list.
This explains why Green was out of practice today. There seems to be a mini wave of positive COVID tests that have hit the league recently. Hopefully Green is feeling OK and can get cleared and return to the Cardinals soon.

Saquon Barkley tested negative for COVID today.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports there were 13 positive test for the Giants yesterday, and only one of those tests was confirmed today. So it sounds like there were 12 false positives, but these players/staff will be tested again each day, and we’ll see where things stand. Barkley is currently on the reserve/COVID-19 list, but he’d be taken off with another negative test tomorrow. However, this paired with the ankle issue, might make it doubtful that the star running back can return to the lineup for Week 9.

The 49ers have opened the practice window for George Kittle (calf).
San Francisco had been hopeful about Kittle returning in Week 9, and it sounds like there is a good chance that happens. If so, he’d obviously need to be inserted into all lineups, and Jimmy Garoppolo having a strong grasp on the starting job following last week’s win is a good sign for Kittle’s rest-of-season outlook.

The Packers are signing Blake Bortles.
Bortles spent time with the Packers during the summer while Aaron Rodgers was holding out, so there’s familiarity there. The veteran quarterback will reportedly begin on the practice squad, but he’s expected to get called up to the active roster for Sunday against the Chiefs with Rodgers out due to COVID-19.

Saquon Barkley tested positive for COVID-19.
The Giants are doing re-tests, but if it’s a confirmed positive, Barkley will be on the reserve/COVID-19 list. More information on the star running back’s status should be available later today.

Odell Beckham Jr. not practicing for the Browns today.
Josina Anderson was the first to report the news, stating that Beckham was “excused” from practice as a team decision, and Yahoo’s Charles Robinson says it was a “team-related” decision. OBJ’s dad recently put out a video and comments on social media criticizing Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield for not getting his son the football more, and it’s safe to assume it’s related to this and perhaps the trade talks involving Beckham and the Saints before yesterday’s deadline. Hopefully this is just a day the Browns want to give both sides to take a breath, but this could be just the beginning of more issues. We’d assume Mayfield, who has had much more success throwing to guys that are not Beckham the past couple of years, can’t be happy with the situation. We’ll see what happens.

Christian McCaffrey (hamstring) has been designated to return from injured reserve.
This was the expectation, as Panthers head coach Matt Rhule said McCaffrey would return to practice today. The star running back practicing to begin the official week of practice is a great sign, and he should have a realistic shot to be activated and return to the lineup this Sunday against the Patriots.
