Cam Newton, Panthers fall to the Saints on Monday Night Football, 12-9.

Newton was 16/29 for 131 yards, zero touchdowns, and one interception, also adding five carries for 15 yards. The turnover came at the end of the first half on a horrible mistake in the red zone, as Cam forced the ball to Devin Funchess and it was underthrown for an Eli Apple interception. Throughout the night, Newton again struggled with inaccuracy, and the Panthers now face long playoff odds with games against Atlanta and New Orleans to close out the year. It’s possible the team shuts Cam down if his shoulder issues are serious enough, but if he plays, Newton’s rushing upside will leave him as a backend QB1 for Week 16.

Jermaine Gresham catches 16-yard pass in Week 15 loss.

It was his only catch of the game. Gresham won’t be a recommended fantasy option next week when the Rams come to town.

Saints win defensive battle against the Panthers.

Drew Brees was 23/25 for 203 yards and one interception in tonight’s Week 15 victory at Carolina. The Panthers deserve a ton of credit for playing a strong game defensively, as they made things tough on Brees and the passing attack. The interception came on a corner route that was tightly covered and deflected for the turnover, and Brees also made an ill-advised throw on a two-point conversion attempt that super-speedy rookie cornerback Donte Jackson picked off and took the other way for two points. This wasn’t a spectacular showing for Brees, who had just 20 points combined in the first round of the fantasy playoffs. Those that were fortunate enough to survive and advance shouldn’t be afraid to play Brees as a strong QB1 in the fantasy finals with two games in the Superdome starting this Sunday against the Steelers.

Chase Edmonds handles ten touches in Week 16 loss.

Edmonds rushed eight times for 22 yards and caught two passes for 22 yards. The rookie was only out-touched by David Johnson 14-10 in a blowout, but he remains just a low-upside handcuff over the final two weeks of the year.

Todd Gurley is dealing with knee inflammation.

Rams head coach Sean McVay says Gurley is day-to-day and that they “think he’s going to be OK.” It doesn’t appear to be a huge issue after Gurley returned to last night’s game versus the Eagles. Expect Gurley to be limited during practice this week, but the superstar running back should be good to for for fantasy owners in title games when the Rams take on the Cardinals this Sunday. We’ll update you if Gurley is listed on the final Week 13 injury report when it’s released on Friday.

Ronald Jones gets one touch in Week 15.

Jones caught one pass for -1 yard against the Ravens. Perhaps he’ll suddenly get a heavy workload in the final two games, but the rookie running back isn’t a recommended fantasy option with titles on the line.

Hunter Henry (knee) has officially returned to practice.

Henry remains on the Physically Unable to Perform list, so he does not count against a 53-man roster spot, and he has 21 days to either be activated to the active roster or he must miss the remainder of the season. This is pretty awesome, as the third-year tight end continues to make a strong and realistic push to play in the postseason despite tearing his ACL during the spring. Don’t expect Henry to play in the regular season, but a potential activation for the playoffs could happen. We hope to see Henry on the field in January to help the Chargers on their Super Bowl run.
