C.J. Anderson | Retired RB

C.J. Anderson is signing with the Raiders, according to multiple reports.

Anderson was released by the Panthers last month, and his name has been brought up in connection with a few teams since. Oakland has gotten strong play out of Doug Martin, so this is a bit surprising, but Anderson isn’t likely to make a significant fantasy impact down the stretch. It’s possible Jon Gruden has 2019 in mind for the 27-year-old runner.

A.J. Derby | Free Agent TE

The Dolphins have placed A.J. Derby (foot/knee) on injured reserve.

Derby has battled injuries all season and has appeared in just four games. His season ends with three receptions for 48 yards and a touchdown. The 27-year-old is set to become an unrestricted free agent this offseason.

D'Onta Foreman | Free Agent RB

The Texans have activated D’Onta Foreman off the PUP list.

After a long rehab process while working his way back from a very bad torn Achilles suffered in November 2017, Foreman is set to return to the field for Houston. He’ll likely immediately be the third running back behind Lamar Miller and Alfred Blue considering the running game is clicking, but he’ll look to work his way into the league role in 2019. For fantasy purposes, the second-year running back doesn’t need to be owned outside of dynasty leagues.

Andre Holmes | Free Agent WR

The Bills have released Andre Holmes.

Buffalo is apparently going younger at the position, so Holmes has been released along with former first-round pick (of the Panthers) Kelvin Benjamin. The veteran caught 12 passes for 157 yards this season with the Bills, and other teams will now have a chance to claim him on waivers.

Kelvin Benjamin | Free Agent TE

Kelvin Benjamin has been released by the Bills.

A first-round pick of the Panthers in 2014, Benjamin was traded to Buffalo last year for a third- and seventh-round picks, but he never found his footing with the Bills. This is a definite surprise, but it’s not exactly shocking after the big-bodied wideout failed to establish himself as a No. 1 target for rookie quarterback Josh Allen, especially considering he once declined to run routes with the young signal-caller before a game earlier this season. Benjamin finishes his Buffalo career with 39 receptions, 571 yards, and two touchdowns in 16 games. He will now hit waivers and could perhaps find a new team that’s in playoff contention.

Malcolm Brown | Free Agent RB

Malcolm Brown (clavicle) is out for the rest of the regular season, according to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo.

This adds uncertainty to the backup situation behind Todd Gurley, as Brown is one of the league’s backup running backs. Justin Davis and John Kelly are the next guys up behind Gurley, and they’d likely form a committee backfield if Gurley was forced to miss any time. Hopefully Brown is back for the postseason, but he can be dropped in redraft fantasy leagues.

James Conner | Cardinals RB

James Conner (ankle) is out for Week 14.

Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin said Conner’s injury is more significant than originally thought, saying that it’s an ankle sprain and not just a contusion. It sounds like it might be a high-ankle sprain for Conner, which many have speculated is what it looked like on Sunday night. Rookie Jaylen Samuels is now set to lead Pittsburgh’s backfield and immediately enters the RB2 mix for the first week of the fantasy playoffs as the Steelers face the Raiders, but veteran Stevan Ridley might also cut into the workload and could take goal-line touches. Trey Edmunds, just called up from the practice squad, is also someone to watch in what could become a committee backfield. Conner should be considered week-to-week for now, but hopefully he’s able to return by the end of the regular season; a high-ankle sprain might mean he’s not back to 100% until the postseason.
