Join now >Danny Amendola (hamstring) is not expected to play on Thursday night.
We’ll let you know if anything changes, but it was going to be a tough ask for the veteran receiver to play on a short week. The Texans are dealing with injuries to Amendola and starting quarterback Tyrod Taylor (hamstring, out) ahead of a matchup versus an impressive Panthers team to kickoff Week 3.

The 49ers are signing Jacques Patrick.
Patrick was on the Bengals practice squad but is being added to San Francisco’s active roster. The Niners are dealing with a bunch of injuries at running back, and Patrick will look to make an impact in Kyle Shanahan’s offense if he gets an opportunity on gameday.

Darrell Henderson is dealing with a rib cartilage injury.
This is a common injury for running backs, and their status often has to do with pain tolerance. It sounds like Henderson will be limited (at best) this week at practice and is likely to be questionable on the final injury report. Sony Michel would draw the start if Henderson is unable to go versus Tampa Bay.

JaMycal Hasty (ankle) is week-to-week.
Hasty is dealing with a high-ankle sprain, so Kyle Shanahan said he will be out for a while. This is yet another running back injury for San Francisco, and they also have Elijah Mitchell (shoulder) and Trey Sermon (concussion) banged up—though hopefully the rookies will be able to go on Sunday night.

Tyrod Taylor (hamstring) will be out “a while”.
Taylor won’t play against the Panthers on Thursday night, and the veteran quarterback sounds like he’s dealing with a multi-week hamstring injury. A short stint on injured reserve is an obvious possibility. Meanwhile, third-round rookie Davis Mills will start at quarterback for Houston, beginning this Thursday night to kickoff Week 3. This is really unfortunate for Taylor, who was playing well through one and a half games and has dealt with some bad luck with injuries over the past few years.

Zach Ertz has been placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list.
Ertz has tested positive for the virus, but he is vaccinated and will still have a chance to play in Week 3’s Monday night matchup with the Cowboys. Hopefully Ertz is feeling OK and can rejoin his teammates soon.

Derek Carr had an MRI on his ankle.
Carr is almost certainly not going to miss any time with his ankle injury, but he is banged up heading into a Week 3 matchup with the Dolphins. The veteran quarterback has been lighting it up early this season, throwing for over 380 yards against two tough defenses in the Ravens and Steelers to open the year. We’ll let you know if anything changes, but don’t expect Carr to miss action with this ankle issue.
