Evan Engram | Broncos TE

Evan Engram (calf) has been ruled out for Week 2.

Engram will miss his second game in a row to open the season, as the short week made it difficult for him to get healthy enough to go. Hopefully, the long layoff before Week 3 will lead to Engram and Saquon Barkley both being unleashed as New York tries to get the offense off the ground—though pass protection could remain an issue.

Kerryon Johnson | Free Agent RB

The 49ers are signing Kerryon Johnson to the practice squad.

With Raheem Mostert (knee) now done for the season, the Niners are adding more backfield depth in the way of the former second-rounder Johnson. While San Francisco has a very deep running back group even with Mostert out, Johnson is someone to keep an eye on after landing in Kyle Shanahan’s offense.

Raheem Mostert | Raiders RB

Raheem Mostert (knee) is out for the season.

Mostert announced the news himself, saying that after consulting with multiple doctors and going through his options, he is having season-ending knee surgery. Mostert says he is “gutted” but feels this is the best decision to get him back to 100% in the long-term. This is obviously a tough break for Mostert, who has struggled to stay healthy on the field, and the 49ers. The good news is Mostert should be 100% well ahead of next season. Mostert will turn 30 this offseason, but he hasn’t had a ton of touches throughout his career and should certainly be able to produce moving forward if he can stay on the field.

Kenny Stills | Free Agent WR

The Saints are signing Kenny Stills to the practice squad.

Stills began his career with New Orleans, and the veteran receiver is now back for a relatively thin receiving corps. Stills will look to work his way to the active roster this season, which is expected to happen at some point.

Josh Jacobs | Packers RB

Josh Jacobs (illness) is officially active for Monday Night Football.

Jacobs popped up on the injury report yesterday after waking up sick, but there wasn’t a ton of concern with his Week 1 status. With Jacobs being active, we’d say he shouldn’t have any limitation and should be ready for a normal workload against the Ravens.

Ryan Fitzpatrick | Retired QB

Ryan Fitzpatrick is expected to miss six-to-eight weeks.

This is pretty good news all things considered, as it’s at least not a season-ender for Fitzpatrick. Taylor Heinicke, who was very impressive in a playoff game against the eventual champion Bucs last January, will now take over and run the Washington offense during Fitzpatrick’s absence—with the opportunity to take the job and run with it. From a fantasy perspective, Fitzpatrick should stay on the waiver wire outside of extremely deep leagues.

Le'Veon Bell | Free Agent RB

Le’Veon Bell will not be elevated from the practice squad for Monday night’s game.

Bell has been with the Ravens slightly longer than Latavius Murray has been, but the latter getting a spot on the 53-man roster makes him the favorite for work this week and beyond. That said, Baltimore wouldn’t have signed Bell if they didn’t plan to eventually have him as a part of their offense, and he remains a definite hold in all leagues. Devonta Freeman is also not being elevated for Week 1.
