Join now >Derrius Guice’s initial diagnosis was a sprained MCL, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
The rookie running back is still getting an MRI to confirm the injury, but a sprained MCL wouldn’t be as bad as it could have been. If it is indeed a sprained MCL for Guice, he could be out anywhere from a few days to a few weeks. The Redskins might give a clear timeline when the extent of the injury is certain after testing.

Chase Edmonds appears to be the clear number two running back for the Cardinals.
The fourth-round rookie has been getting most of the second-team reps for Arizona, and he’s been the one filling in for David Johnson with the first-team offense when DJ sits. Cardinals head coach Steve Wilks called Edmonds “a solid three-down back” because he can run between the tackles, is good in protection, and can split out at receiver. Meanwhile, Johnson says he believes Edmonds is smarter than he was as a rookie and believes the Patriot League’s all-time leading rusher will be “great.” Also, offensive coordinator Mike McCoy has been getting both Johnson and Edmonds on the field at the same time for certain plays. Edmonds looks like the clear handcuff to Johnson this season, and he could deliver some value in very deep fantasy leagues.

Deon Cain suffers knee injury, will not return to tonight’s preseason game.
Cain had one reception for four yards before leaving the game. The sixth-round rookie from Clemson has been a training camp star pushing for a sizable role in Indianapolis’ offense, so hopefully this injury isn’t too serious. There should be an update in the next 24 hours.

Marlon Mack suffers hamstring injury in first preseason game.
The Colts say the second-year back will not return to tonight’s game, which isn’t a surprise. Mack started the game for the Colts, and he caught a 17-yard swing pass from Andrew Luck on Luck’s first play since 2016. He looked explosive on his touches, but he noticeably grabbed at his hamstring after a carry, and now we just have to hope it’s not a serious injury. We’ll keep you updated on Mack’s status when more information becomes available.

George Kittle left Thursday night’s game against the Cowboys with a shoulder injury.
The second-year tight end was targeted on a deep ball and got piled up on by a couple defenders. He went to the sidelines and received medical attention, but hopefully it’s nothing serious. Kittle should be a big part of the offense this season and is currently being drafted as a borderline TE1 option.

Matt Breida (shoulder) is out for the rest of tonight’s preseason game.
Breida hurt his shoulder in the first quarter against the Cowboys, and he’s already been ruled out for the game. This is the second 49ers player to be knocked out of the game with a shoulder injury, as tight end George Kittle left just a bit earlier. Hopefully this injury isn’t too serious and Breida doesn’t miss next Saturday’s preseason game versus the Texans.

C.J. Anderson played into the fourth quarter of tonight’s preseason game.
While Christian McCaffrey played exclusively with the starters and scored a short touchdown at the goal line, Anderson played late into the ballgame. If there was still any doubt as to who the lead ball-carrier in Carolina will be this season, that’s essentially been put to rest tonight. Perhaps Anderson will eventually work his way into a sizable role, including potentially in short yardage and at the goal line, but people should stop wondering who the lead back will be. It’s McCaffrey.
