Join now >The Miami Herald’s Armando Salguero believes Ryan Tannehill to Danny Amendola “is going to be a thing” this season.
It’s only the first week of on-field OTAs, so you don’t want to read too much into a couple of spring practices. However, Salguero noted earlier today that Tannehill was going to his new slot receiver a lot during drills, and this could be the start of building a great connection in 2018. With Jarvis Landry gone, it’s possible Tannehill decides to pepper Amendola with a lot of the targets Landry got over the last four seasons. There will be some concern about the Dolphins potentially limiting Amendola’s regular season action like the Patriots did, but Miami doesn’t exactly have the luxury of basically knowing they’ll be playing football in January. Amendola might have a huge role in his first season with the Dolphins, but keep in mind the team also signed former Chiefs receiver Albert Wilson during free agency, and it’s still unclear what everyone’s role will be.

Hunter Henry tore his ACL during OTAs today, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
This is obviously just terrible news for both Henry and the Chargers. Henry reportedly sustained the injury while simply running, which unfortunately seems to happen to at least a couple guys every year. Henry was a prime breakout candidate entering his third NFL season, and he had elite TE1 upside as the clear top tight end for Philip Rivers. Now, the Chargers could opt to bring back franchise legend Antonio Gates, who the team said they would not be re-signing last month; if not, Virgil Green is next up on the depth chart and could become a backend TE1 option. There isn’t any great news that comes from this, but at least Henry should be 100% ready to go for the start of next offseason. In dynasty leagues, Henry is a buy-low candidate as someone that could still become a star. Henry will be entering a contract year in 2019, and wish him luck in his recovery from this knee injury.

Jordan Taylor (hips) is expected to be out until midway through training camp.
Broncos head coach Vance Joseph says they are “being smart” when it comes to injuries, so perhaps Taylor could be back on the field quicker than expected. The 2015 undrafted receiver will be in a hole if he does indeed miss about half of training camp, especially after adding a couple of rookies to the group that has Demaryius Thomas and Emmanuel Sanders locked into the top two receiver spots.

Rams rookie running back John Kelly pled guilty to misdemeanor marijuana possession, according to NFL.com.
This is from an incident dating back to October, when Kelly was still in college with Tennessee. Crazier things have happened and it’s possible the NFL decides to discipline Kelly for the incident, but we doubt it.

The Jets have traded quarterback Christian Hackenberg to the Raiders.
Jets head coach Todd Bowles just announced that Hackenberg was traded to Oakland for a conditional seventh-round pick in the 2019 draft, so basically it could turn out to be a giveaway. Clearly, the Jets have a crowded quarterback room that includes third overall pick Sam Darnold, so Hackenberg didn’t really have a future in New York. Now, he joins a nice situation in Oakland and might be able to compete for the backup job behind Derek Carr. It’s worth noting that Jon Gruden spent time with Hackenberg during “Gruden’s QB Camp” on ESPN and was high on the former Penn State quarterback entering the draft, so he must have liked what he saw and heard from the 2016 second-round pick during their time together.

The NFL has suspended Demetrius Harris for one game.
Harris violating the league’s substance abuse policy for a marijuana arrest he spent a couple of days in jail for. Luckily, the Chiefs have a ton of depth at tight end behind Travis Kelce. Look for Tim Wright to get a good amount of work in Week 1 against the Chargers. Harris can go through the preseason, but he’ll be away from the team to start the regular season and will return in Week 2 against the Steelers.

Falcons head coach Dan Quinn told reporters that Julio Jones is expected to join the Falcons for mandatory minicamp.
Quinn also said he’s been talking regularly with Julio, so in other words, there won’t be a holdout coming from the superstar receiver, which is obviously a great sign for both the team and fantasy owners. Jones is still likely seeking a new contract, but playing nice could be the smoothest path to a new pay day from the Falcons this offseason, and being at mandatory minicamp will allow him to get acclimated to his new teammates heading into a 2018 season that will undoubtedly come with Super Bowl aspirations.
