Sammy Watkins | Free Agent WR

The Rams are not using the franchise tag on wide receiver Sammy Watkins.

Los Angeles just announced they have opted to tag safety Lamarcus Joyner, meaning Watkins will be able to test free agency for the first time in his career on March 14 (March 12 for the legal tampering period) if he and the Rams don’t agree to a contract before then. Though he didn’t have a huge season in 2017, catching 39 passes for 593 yards and eight touchdowns, Watkins was a good teammate with the Rams and a big part of their offensive turnaround. The former fourth pick in the draft is an extremely talented and tough receiver that can stretch the field vertically as well as go over the middle to make tough catches, and he’s a wiling blocker in the run game. Multiple teams should be interested in Watkins’ services in free agency, and he’ll probably be one of the top three-five free agents available. After Watkins torched the Niners for 106 yards and two touchdowns when he faced them in Week 3 last season, perhaps San Francisco will be among the team’s most interested in him because they saw what he can do first-hand.

Dion Lewis | Free Agent RB

Dion Lewis gets nine carries in Super Bowl LII.

Lewis ran the ball well in the loss to the Eagles, gaining 39 yards on his nine attempts, but he didn’t get many opportunities in what was a pass-heavy gameplan for New England. After having over 1,000 total yards and nine touchdowns in the regular season, Lewis could return next season as the top guy in New England’s backfield, which would make him a very good fantasy option.

Troy Fumagalli | Broncos TE

The Broncos have selected Wisconsin tight end Troy Fumagalli with the 156th pick (fifth round) of the 2018 NFL Draft.

Denver continues to add pieces on offense, as Fumagalli joins wide receivers Courtland Sutton and DaeSean Hamilton in this draft class. Other tight ends have flown off the board today, but Fumagalli is a solid receiving option that could develop into a long-term starter for the Broncos. However, it’s unlikely he makes a big impact as a rookie, so he’s just a dynasty league target in 2018.

Austin Davis | Retired QB

The Seahawks re-signed quarterback Austin Davis.

Davis impressed in the preseason last year and was Russell Wilson’s backup during the season. The 28-year-old quarterback has played well when given opportunities, and he’s one of the better backup quarterbacks in the league. After adding Stephen Morris last week, Seattle’s quarterback room is now filling up. They could also still add another quarterback in next week’s draft.

Mike Williams | Chargers WR

Mike Williams says he feels 100%.

After tweaking his back on the first day of rookie minicamp last season, Williams only appeared in ten games last season, catching 11 passes for 95 yards. He told the team’s official site “I wasn’t capable of doing what I can do last year because of the injury,” but that he now feels 100%. Williams added that he’s looking to “redeem” himself in his second season and that his body feels “totally different” compared to last year. Now fully healthy, Williams could turn into a big weapon for the Chargers in his second NFL season. Fantasy-wise, the Chargers do have a ton of weapons on offense, but he could still emerge as a really good contributor.

Johnny Manziel | Free Agent QB

Johnny Manziel says he’ll play in the NFL for free.

Manziel has been on the comeback trail for a bit now, and he’s already foregoing an offer from the CFL to play in The Spring League next month. NFL Network reported earlier that Manziel would join a practice squad and not even get paid if that was a necessary step to prove he can play in the NFL, and Manziel seemingly heard the report and went to Twitter to confirm, tweeting “I’ll play again for FREE. It’s not about the money it’s about getting back to doing what I miss and love.” The former Heisman Trophy winner has been active on social media lately, including showing some of his training, and it certainly sounds like he seriously wants to get another shot at playing in the NFL.

Rob Gronkowski | Retired TE

Rob Gronkowski is not attending the start of Patriots offseason training tomorrow, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Schefter says Gronk is still considering whether to continue his football career but has had “good communication” with the Patriots. Gronkowski gets a bonus for attending a certain percentage of offseason training, but perhaps that wouldn’t affect him as he makes a decision on his future. It’s worth noting that Tom Brady, who is in Qatar for the Best Buddies charity, won’t be at the start of the offseason program tomorrow either. The All-Pro tight end has been working with Tom Guerrero and TB12, Brady’s team and method, which indicates he wants to keep playing. At this point, it would be a surprise if Gronk didn’t return in 2018, but it’s no guarantee.
