Join now >The Buccaneers have released running back Doug Martin, according to multiple reports.
The move was first reported by Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times. This isn’t a surprise after Martin struggled to produce in 2017 after missing the first three games of the season because of a PED suspension. Martin was an All-Pro in 2015 when he rushed for 1,402 yards, and he also had a spectacular 1,454-rushing-yard season in 2012 as a rookie, but he didn’t reach 500 yards in any of his other four NFL seasons. Despite not performing over the last two seasons, Martin will certainly get another opportunity in 2018. He’ll get a head start on free agency because he’s been released, and it’s possible he signs ahead of the start of the new league year on March 14. Because running back is such a deep position—including both free agency and the draft—it’s also possible Martin doesn’t receive immediate interest from teams. However, the former All-Pro is 29 and should have plenty left in the tank after not hitting 150 touches in either of the last two seasons. Martin could be a potential steal as he heads to his second NFL team.

Wide receiver Mike Wallace is signing with the Eagles, according to multiple reports.
NFL Network’s Peter Schrager was the first to report the deal, and he says it’s for one year. While many in Philadelphia might have preferred to have former Eagles receiver Jeremy Maclin back with the team, Wallace is probably signing for less than what Maclin will end up getting. Wallace will likely take Torrey Smith’s role from last season, though we expect Nelson Agholor to get a lot more time in two-receiver sets after he had a great 2017 season. After he was a relatively consistent option with the Ravens, expect Wallace to be a boom/bust weekly fantasy option this year.

The Jaguars declined tight end Mychal Rivera’s option.
Rivera will become a free agent when the new league year begins. After being signed last offseason, Rivera didn’t practice all August and was placed on injured reserve before the season. Rivera is only 27 and will get another opportunity somewhere else, assuming he wants to continue playing.

Brock Osweiler is signing with the Dolphins, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
In Miami, Osweiler reunites with Adam Gase, who was his offensive coordinator with the Broncos for two seasons (2013-2014). Still young for a quarterback at just 27-years-old, perhaps Osweiler will rejuvenate his career with the Dolphins behind Ryan Tannehill, who is coming off a torn ACL. The former second-round pick is one of the better backup quarterbacks in the NFL.

Rob Gronkowski (concussion) did not practice today.
Gronk still has about a week and a half to get cleared for Super Bowl LII, so there isn’t a ton of concern; however, this is now day four since he suffered the concussion in the AFC Championship Game, and he apparently hasn’t made progress in concussion protocol. Hopefully Gronk is cleared soon, and we’ll update you with his status each day until he is.

The Cardinals claimed wide receiver Cobi Hamilton, according to Field Yates.
The former Steelers and Texans receiver was waived by Houston yesterday, and the Cardinals placed a claim on him. After losing John Brown and Jaron Brown in free agency, Arizona has one of the shallowest receiving corps in the NFL behind Larry Fitzgerald. There’s a chance Hamilton is able to carve out a role as a top-three receiver for the team this season. Hamilton will be someone to watch throughout the summer.

Carson Wentz’s “goal” is to be ready for Week 1 of next season.
Wentz spoke to reporters for the first time since the injury in Week 14 against the Rams, and he said it was both his ACL and LCL that were injured, per multiple reports in the locker room. It’s also great to hear that Wentz is walking around without his cane, and recovery seems to be going well. However, hopefully the goal of being ready for the start of the regular season, though certainly obtainable, won’t make him rush the recovery and rehab. The most important thing will be getting back to 100% so he play like his usual athletic, playmaking self.
