Mike Gillislee | Saints RB

Mike Gillislee (knee) has been ruled out for Week 17.

Unfortunately, Gillislee didn’t practice all week and won’t play in the regular season finale, and it comes just as he was getting an opening to carve out a role in New England’s backfield again. It’s unclear what the extent of the knee injury Gillislee is dealing with is, but he’ll have another two weeks-plus to get ready for the Divisional Round of the playoffs. His regular season ends with 104 carries for 383 rushing yards and five rushing touchdowns along with a 15-yard reception in nine games.

Joe Mixon | Texans RB

Joe Mixon (ankle) has been ruled out for Week 17.

The rookie running back’s season is over after 13 games played, as he dealt with a concussion and now an ankle injury this year. While ultra talented, Mixon couldn’t get much going this season, and his workloads were inconsistent in Cincinnati’s backfield. Mixon had 160 carries for 530 rushing yards and four rushing touchdowns along with 29 receptions for 286 receiving yards in his 13 games. It’ll be very interesting to see who the next head coach of the Bengals is, assuming they part ways with Marvin Lewis after the year, as Mixon is a great talent that could be a big-time player in the NFL. No matter who the coach is, Mixon will have major breakout potential in 2018.

Davante Adams | Rams WR

The Packers are signing Davante Adams to a long-term contract, according to Adam Schefter.

And just like that, one potential free agent wide receiver is off the board for teams attempting to upgrade the position this offseason (though the Packers were likely to franchise tag him if they could not agree on a new contract). NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport says it’s a four-year extension worth $58 million, with Adams getting $32 million in the first two years of the deal. Adams just turned 25 on Christmas Eve, so it’s probably a good move to cash in with a four-year deal as opposed to a five-year deal. He’ll be a young 29 when this contract expires, which could mean two major paydays for the former Fresno State receiver. And Adams gets to play with Aaron Rodgers for at least the next few years, which doesn’t hurt either.

Tyreek Hill | Dolphins WR

Tyreek Hill will not play this Sunday.

The Chiefs are locked into the number four seed in the AFC, and they are giving some players a rest. Hill’s second NFL regular season was a big one, as he caught 75 passes for 1,183 receiving yards and seven receiving touchdowns along with 17 carries for 59 rushing yards and one punt return touchdown. Those that selected him in their fantasy drafts must be happy with the production, as his numbers were that of a number one receiver despite him not fully being there as an all-around player on the outside. The dynamic second-year player will look to make some huge plays in the postseason for Kansas City.

Jeremy Maclin | Retired WR

Jeremy Maclin (knee) is listed as doubtful for Week 17.

Maclin didn’t practice all week, and it would be a surprise if he played on Sunday against the Bengals. Being ready for a potential Wild Card Round game in two Sundays seems to be the best-case scenario for Maclin, but check back in on Sunday for his official game status.

Andrew Luck | Retired QB

Andrew Luck doesn’t think he’ll need another shoulder surgery.

Luck is currently talking to the media for the first time since getting shut down for the season after he couldn’t get back from his shoulder injury that kept him out all of this season. He has not yet thrown a football, but he says it’s coming soon in his “progression,” and he doesn’t think the start of the 2018 season is in jeopardy—also adding that he thinks he’ll be able to participate in all of the offseason program and that pain has gone down considerably. That said, Luck made it clear that he’s in a process, and he won’t rush back after one season has already been lost to the shoulder issue, but now more than ever there seems to be a lot of optimism that he’ll be back to his old self soon. If Luck is able to get back for the start of offseason training, it’d be an excellent sign. Hopefully the Colts franchise quarterback is able to put this injury behind him once and for all, as he’s a genuinely good guy that’s very fun to watch on the field. Luck’s status will be one of the biggest storylines throughout the offseason until he’s 100%.

12/29/17 - 01:41 PM ET

DeMarco Murray | Retired RB

DeMarco Murray (knee) has been ruled out for Sunday against the Jaguars.

Murray is a tough player that was believed to maybe have a chance of paying while dealing with his bad knee injury, but the Titans went ahead and ruled him out ahead of the weekend. If Murray did play, he probably would not have been close to effective enough to be on the field. Now the Titans need to hope for a win against Jacksonville to clinch a playoff spot, which would perhaps give Murray enough time to get healthy and play. Monster second-year back Derrick Henry will get most of the work in Tennessee’s backfield for Week 17, and he’s a very good option in fantasy lineups for those vying for a title.
