Join now >Cam Akers suffered a torn Achilles, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.
There are injuries almost every summer to key players, but this is a brutal blow with training camp not even beginning (the injury occurred while training on his own)—as Akers had the makings of a potential superstar in Sean McVay’s offense. Now, the Rams will turn to Darrell Henderson as their lead back, and we’ll see them almost certainly sign someone else (perhaps Todd Gurley?) in the near future. Right now, Henderson gets a huge boost into the RB2 ranks considering his big-play potential in a high-powered offense, and this news could make Los Angeles slant more towards the pass in a Matthew Stafford-led attack. For Akers, a torn Achilles is one of the worst injuries an athlete can have, but he has age on his side having just turned 22 last month.

Ted Ginn Jr. has retired from the NFL.
Ginn Jr. played 14 NFL season for six different teams after being taken No. 9 overall by the Dolphins in 2007, and he stuck around for so long that it almost felt like he played in a couple of different eras as a receiver that started in the mid 2000s and played into 2020 (playing in three different decades). While the Ohio State product might not have developed into the true No. 1 receiver you might expect from a top-ten pick, he made an impact as a receiver and returner throughout his productive career. Ginn played his first three years for the Dolphins, but he had his most success with the Panthers, including in 2015 when he posted a 44/739/10 line during Cam Newton’s MVP season in which Carolina went to the Super Bowl. Ginn also played for the 49ers, Cardinals, Saints, and Bears. For his career, Ginn Jr. caught 412 passes for 5,742 yards and 33 touchdowns; he also had two rushing touchdowns, four punt return touchdowns, and three kick return touchdowns during his career. We wish Ginn luck as he moves past his on-field days.

The Dolphins signed Isaiah Ford.
Ford has been on an off the Dolphins roster a few times, but now he’s back in Miami ahead of training camp. Ford will look to win a spot on the final roster this summer.

Tom Brady dealt with a torn MCL last season, according to Rick Stroud.
The torn MCL actually happened while with the Patriots, so at 43 years old and in his first season with a new team, Brady led the Buccaneers to a Super Bowl championship despite a serious knee injury and limited practice time due to COVID-19 restrictions. This news is just another part of the legacy for the greatest athlete of all-time, and Brady should be fully healthy by Week 1 following surgery to repair the injury. He—and the entire Tampa Bay offense—will be putting up monster numbers in 2021.

N’Keal Harry has requested a trade.
The statement from his agent—which can be read in the link below—talks up the former first-round pick while basically claiming he hasn’t been given much of an opportunity with the Patriots. This news almost certainly means Harry is on his way out of New England, though it would be interesting to see how Bill Belichick reacts to the public statement, which could decrease the value of the former Arizona State standout. Through two seasons, Harry has caught 45 passes for 414 yards and four touchdowns.

Josh Gordon has officially submitted his reinstatement letter to the NFL, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Schefter says that Gordon has passed all drug tests administered over the past three months and hopes to be with a team in training camp, so this comeback sounds serious after it seemed Gordon might have been out of chances at the end of last year. The fitness of Gordon should make him a capable contributor in his age-30 season, and the talent should lead to someone giving him a shot to prove it. This news makes him a worthwhile pickup in dynasty leagues.

Demaryius Thomas is retiring from the NFL.
Thomas—who is retiring as a Bronco—was not in the league last year, and he last appeared with the Jets in 2019. The most dangerous weapon on the record-breaking, Peyton Manning-led offenses last decade, Thomas’ career ends with 724 receptions, 9,763 receiving yards, and 63 receiving touchdowns in 11 seasons. He of course was a key member of the Super Bowl 50 team, and Thomas was also on the other end of Tim Tebow’s touchdown pass in overtime to beat the Steelers in the 2011 postseason. The production fell off for him when he turned 30, but Thomas is still one of the most productive wideouts of his time. We wish him the best in his post-playing career.
