Join now >The Buccaneers released Darwin Thompson.
Thompson couldn’t work his way into a role in the Tampa Bay offense, and the team is going in another direction to start the postseason. Thompson shouldn’t have much trouble finding a new squad.

The Buccaneers signed John Brown to the practice squad.
With Tampa Bay banged up at receiver, this is an intriguing signing for the defending champs. Brown knows Bruce Arians’ offense from their time together with the Cardinals, and the veteran receiver has the experience to step in as a deep threat if called up for the Bucs.

Giovani Bernard (hip) has been designated to return from injured reserve.
Bernard will be back to join a now-crowded backfield alongside Leonard Fournette, Ronald Jones II, Le’Veon Bell, and Ke’Shawn Vaughn, but Tampa Bay should lean on a combination of them with Chris Godwin (knee) out and Antonio Brown off the team. Still, we’d expect Fournette will be featured as both a runner and pass-catcher this month.

Leonard Fournette (hamstring) has been designated to return from injured reserve.
Fournette was expected back for the playoffs, and that should be the case if he gets through practice healthy over the next three days. “Playoff Lenny” will obviously be a big boost to Tampa Bay’s offense (especially without Chris Godwin and Antonio Brown), and the team should also be getting Giovani Bernard (hip) back.

Taysom Hill is expected to undergo foot surgery.
Hill suffered a Lisfranc injury on Sunday after dealing with a foot issue for most of the season, and it will unfortunately lead to a chuck of offseason time missed as he recovers. New Orleans will be a team many connect quarterbacks to this offseason, but Hill is notably 7-2 as a starter over the past two seasons.

Joe Mixon has been activated from the reserve/COVID-19 list.
Mixon will be good to go on Saturday for Cincinnati’s playoff matchup versus Las Vegas, and he should be fed—including as a pass-catcher—if the Bengals are going to make a run this month. The star runner won’t be in danger of missing time due to COVID-19 for the remainder of the season.
1/10/22 - 12:40 PM ET
Darren Waller (knee) is officially active for Week 18.
Waller hasn’t played since Thanksgiving, but Las Vegas has been able to win three games in a row—setting them up to make the playoffs with a victory over the Chargers. The superstar tight end practiced in a limited capacity all week, so we’ll see if he has a full allotment of snaps; even at less than 100%, Waller’s presence would take the pressure off Josh Jacobs, Hunter Renfrow, and the rest of the offense.
