Hogan caught four-of-four targets for 70 yards and two touchdowns from Tom Brady in the exhibition against the Lions. The first touchdown came on a zig route on the opening drive, and the second came on a perfect deep ball in the end zone from Brady. Unfortunately, Julian Edelman suffered a knee injury in the game and the extent of the injury is unknown. Hogan might be in line for more targets and more time on the inside if Edelman misses any time. Despite his strong finish to last season, Hogan is going undrafted in almost all fantasy leagues.

Dion Lewis starts New England’s third preseason game.
Lewis drew the start in the “dress rehearsal” game and had four carries for 11 yards, but he wasn’t targeted in the passing game. New England’s backfield is about as unpredictable as possible right now, and that includes Lewis. He’s currently going undrafted in fantasy drafts, but there’s a chance he delivers some value. At this point, he’ll probably be too volatile an option to have in your lineup.

James White gets five touches in preseason game against Detroit.
White had four carries for 25 yards and one reception (on one target) for eight yards. He was obviously very effective running the football, looking fast and picking up yardage on all his carries. Dion Lewis actually started the game for New England, but he didn’t catch any passes. White is probably the safest option of anyone in the Patriots backfield as we roll towards Week 1 with major uncertainty on how the touches will be split.

Mike Gillislee makes preseason debut for the Patriots.
The former Buffalo Bill missed most of the preseason with a hamstring injury, but he played in this “dress rehearsal” Week 3 preseason game versus the Lions. He carried eight times for 38 yards and a touchdown, while adding a two-point conversion. The touchdown came at the goal line, which is the role many are hoping Gillislee plays for the Patriots this season. Rex Burkhead, who had a great preseason game last week, didn’t play in this exhibition for unknown reasons so it’s difficult to tell what is going on with New England’s backfield. There’s a chance one of these guys in the backfield becomes a great fantasy contributor, but there’s also a chance this becomes a frustrating backfield to own in 2017.

Rex Burkhead is not playing in New England’s preseason game against Detroit.
It’s unclear why Burkhead isn’t playing in the game with the rest of the offense. Dion Lewis, James White, and Mike Gillislee all played with the first team in the exhibition, with Gillislee rushing for a touchdown at the goal line and also converting a two-point conversion at the goal line. We’ll see if the Patriots reveal why Burkhead didn’t play in the game.

Matthew Stafford throws two touchdowns in Lions’ third preseason game.
Stafford and the starters played the entire first half and the start of the third quarter, and Stafford was 15/22 for 190 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception. The first touchdown came on a dime to Marvin Jones Jr. in the end zone for 23 yards, and the second touchdown was an 18-yarder on a check down to Dwayne Washington. Stafford’s interception was on a tipped ball that Patriots corner Eric Rowe picked off. It’d be a surprise if Stafford played in Week 4 of the preseason, so we’ll see him in Week 1 against the Cardinals.

Julian Edelman has officially been ruled out of Patriots’ preseason game.
This was 100% expected after Edelman left the game against Detroit with a knee injury. Now, we just wait to hear on the severity of Edelman’s injury and hope that it’s not too serious.
