Join now >Jay Cutler plays well in about a quarter of preseason game.
Cutler was 5/8 for 105 yards and a touchdown in the game versus the Eagles before the Dolphins got him and Jay Ajayi out of the game. The Dolphins quarterback again showed a nice connection with DeVante Parker, hitting him for a 72-yard pass that nearly went for a touchdown. Cutler’s final play was a one-yard touchdown pass to tight end Julius Thomas in the flat. While this is the preseason, it’s clear Cutler knows the offense and was the best choice for the Dolphins after Ryan Tannehill went down with a knee injury. Because he has more talent on offense than he’s ever had with a coach he’s comfortable with, Cutler has some sleeper appeal in fantasy leagues this season. Cutler isn’t getting drafted in fantasy leagues, but he should be a good bye week fill-in at least.

Alshon Jeffery catches touchdown in Week 3 of the preseason.
Jeffery and the Eagles starters played for a quarter in the exhibition against the Dolphins. The big receiver caught two passes for 35 yards, including a 15-yard touchdown on a slant route to cap the day for the starters. The Eagles have been soft on their free agent acquisition, so the former Bears receiver is certainly not going to play in the final preseason game next week. Jeffery looks like he’s going to get targeted a lot this season, so his current ADP in the top 40 is fair.

Carson Wentz throws two touchdowns in Week 3 preseason game.
The Eagles offense was expected to play at least the first half, but Wentz and the starters only played about a quarter against the Dolphins. Wentz was 6/10 for 129 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception. The first touchdown came on a 50-yard bomb to Torrey Smith where there was a broken coverage and Smith was wide open for six. The second touchdown was on a 15-yard slant to Alshon Jeffery. Wentz’s interception came on a tipped pass at the line of scrimmage that was picked off by big defensive lineman Jordan Phillips. This will be it for Wentz this preseason, who looks comfortable heading into his second NFL season. He offers good upside at the end of fantasy drafts.

Cam Newton throws TD in preseason game against the Jaguars.
This was Newton’s first game preseason after he dealt with shoulder soreness through much of training camp and the team took it slow with their franchise quarterback. As expected, Newton only played one drive in the game. The Panthers ran right down the field on the Jaguars, with Newton not throwing his first pass until the offense was deep in opposing territory. Newton was 2/2 for 21 yards and a touchdown, with the first pass going to Christian McCaffrey on a check down for 12 yards and the second pass going for a nine-yard touchdown on a wide-open slant to Kelvin Benjamin. This should be it for Newton this preseason, and he’ll be 100% entering Week 1 against the 49ers. Newton’s APD has been steady in the 5-10 QB range.

T.J. Yeldon is not playing in tonight’s preseason game against Carolina.
Yeldon injured his hamstring in last week’s preseason game against the Buccaneers and he’s still getting back to 100%. With rookie Leonard Fournette already out with a foot issue, Chris Ivory will get a lot of first-team snaps in tonight’s exhibition.

Corey Davis is still out with a hamstring injury.
The rookie receiver has been out since the first week of training camp and won’t play in the team’s third preseason game. This has become a slight concern for his early season fantasy value, but it’s possible the fifth overall pick in the draft gets thrown right into the lineup in Week 1. Davis is going outside the top 40 receivers, so you don’t need to overdraft to get him. Rishard Matthews looks like he’ll be Marcus Mariota’s number one wide receiver this season, though.

C.J. Prosise will not play in Seattle’s preseason game tomorrow night.
After injuring his groin in warmups last Friday, Prosise isn’t ready to go for the Week 3 preseason exhibition against the Chiefs. Thomas Rawls (ankle) also won’t be playing in the game, but Pete Carroll says both guys are “close” and might be able to play if it was a regular season game. Like with Rawls, it’d be nice to see Prosise out there before drafting him—especially with seventh-round rookie Chris Carson quickly climbing up the depth chart. Carson will likely get a lot of work behind Eddie Lacy with the first team tomorrow night.
