Join now >An announcement on the Ezekiel Elliott investigation will not come today, according to Adam Schefter.
There were rumors an announcement was coming yesterday or today, but that was apparently false. It’s still a waiting game for Elliott and the Cowboys, as they await the NFL’s decision on a potential suspension. Perhaps a decision will come tomorrow or Friday before the weekend.

Brandin Cooks has been a “standout” in Patriots training camp.
According to the Patriots’ official website, the dynamic receiver has been darting around the field through the first week-plus of camp, but he’s “taken it to a different level” in joint practices with the Jaguars. Cooks was “unstoppable” yesterday, and Tom Brady looked his way often as the two connected for several touchdowns. Cooks is currently going in the 3rd/4th round in 2017 fantasy drafts.

Packers running back Ty Montgomery is working very hard at pass protection.
The converted running back had a great day of practice in pass protection and has made it a “personal priority” to progress in that area, according to Packers.com. Montgomery himself said he would spend an hour and a half working on pass protection if that’s what he has to do. It’s clear Montgomery is taking pass protection, one of the less glamorous parts of being a running back, very seriously. His mindset of improvement in that area should help keep him on the field and handle much of the work out of the backfield for Green Bay.

Titans head coach Mike Mularkey says Richard Matthews is having a better camp than last year.
Matthews is currently Tennessee’s number one receiver after he had 65 receptions for 945 yards and nine touchdowns in his first season with the team last year. The Titans added a lot of talent to their receiving corps, but Matthews is locked in as a starter. Considering Mularkey says he’s had a better camp than last year, Matthews has solid upside in an offense that could rely more on the passing game in 2017.

DeMarco Murray will not play in the Titans’ first preseason game.
Head coach Mike Mularkey announced this, and it’s not surprising after Murray just returned yesterday as a limited participant in practice. Derrick Henry will handle most of the backfield work with Marcus Mariota and the first-team offense.

James Conner returned to Steelers practice today.
Conner missed nine days with an AC joint sprain, but the rookie is back in action. He was limited in practice, but he should work his way back to being a full participant relatively soon. Conner will probably sit out the Steelers’ first preseason game, though.

The Ravens think their running backs will be a lot better this season.
Both quarterback Joe Flacco and head coach John Harbaugh were on SiriusXM NFL Radio and talked about the running backs. Flacco said they know the offense needs balance with the running game for them to be successful and thinks that position will be a lot better this year, and he said he’s excited about free agent acquisition Danny Woodhead. Harbaugh went on SiriusXM NFL Radio after Flacco and said they haven’t had someone that has the ability Woodhead has as a receiver since Ray Rice. Flacco said the same thing (the comparison to Ray Rice) about Woodhead during the offseason, and it’s clear they are going to use him a lot out of the backfield. Rice had 61+ catches in each season from 2009-2012 with Baltimore.
