Join now >Chris Carson is turning heads at Seahawks training camp.
Sheil Kapadia of ESPN writes, “If [Carson] were a first- or second-round pick, he’d probably be the talk of camp right now.” Head coach Pete Carroll has talked about Carson having a great camp, while receiver Doug Baldwin is very impressed and said Carson has “all the tools.” The seventh-round pick is looking like a good bet to make Seattle’s final roster, and he’s worth adding in all dynasty leagues.

Jordan Matthews is listed as the starting slot receiver on the Eagles’ unofficial depth chart.
After offensive coordinator Frank Reich said yesterday that things will be different this season and brought up Nelson Agholor, unprompted, having a great spring and beginning of camp, there was thought Matthews wouldn’t be playing as much this season. However, head coach Doug Pederson said today that Matthews’ role will not be reduced from last season, and Matthews is listed ahead of Agholor on the team’s depth chart (though unofficial). More notable might be Torrey Smith also being listed above Agholor as a starter, but things should change before the regular season—Agholor is clearly among the Eagles’ top three best receivers.

Thomas Rawls got the first reps in Seahawks mock game yesterday.
According to Sheil Kapadia of ESPN, Rawls and Lacy rotated with the first team, but Rawls saw the field first. It could mean nothing, but most are expecting Lacy to get most of the work in Seattle’s backfield. However, Rawls has a great mindset and runs extremely hard, bringing energy in the run game—he’s a favorite of head coach Pete Carroll and won’t just hand Lacy the starting job. They’ll both get their work this season, but it’s a situation to monitor this preseason.

Cam Newton (shoulder) hasn’t thrown the last three practices.
After his shoulder felt sore a few days ago, the team hasn’t put him back out there to throw. Hopefully he didn’t rush his way back from surgery, and it’s just normal soreness and he will be back at practice soon.

Bucs head coach Dirk Koetter says third-round pick Chris Godwin “looks like a vet.”
Koetter called the rookie’s training camp “outstanding,” saying he doesn’t play or look like a rookie. Godwin received plenty of praise from his coach at OTAs earlier this year, and it’s a great sign that he’s still playing well with the pads on in training camp. Godwin was one of our favorite players in the draft, and even in a loaded Tampa Bay offense, he is good enough to have a year-one fantasy impact. Despite the Buccaneers signing DeSean Jackson this offseason, the Penn State product could force his way onto the field with a strong preseason. Dynasty owners should get the 21-year-old while they can.

Cam Newton won’t play in tomorrow night’s preseason game against the Texans.
This isn’t the least bit surprising, as Newton’s surgically repaired throwing shoulder is sore and he hasn’t practiced fully for several days. However, Adam Schefter reports Newton is expected to play at some point during the preseason, so that’s a good sign that Newton’s shoulder should be fine. The 2015 NFL MVP could see his ADP rise if he gets healthy and back on the practice field soon.

Todd Gurley wants to get 1,000 yards receiving this season.
Gurley isn’t the first running back this year to say he wants over 1,000 yards rushing and 1,000 yards receiving in the same season, as fellow third-year back David Johnson has made it clear that’s a big personal goal of his. The talented Rams running back told SiriusXM NFL Radio that he doesn’t really do goals, but said “but on my keychain it has 1,500 (rushing yards) and 1,000 receiving.” While Gurley might not be big into personal goals, he knows racking up that kind of yardage would help his team. New head coach Sean McVay has been getting his star running back more involved in the pass game, especially with Lance Dunbar out with an injury. The previous coaching staff didn’t get Gurley involved much as a receiver, but he certainly has the talent to be a big contributor there. While he might not reach 1,000 yards this season, his role as a receiver out of the backfield looks like it should definitely expand. A lot of his success will come down to the offensive line, but Gurley is looking like a good second round pick in fantasy drafts.
