Join now >Brock Osweiler will start the Browns’ first preseason game against the Saints.
Hue Jackson just named the former Broncos and Texans quarterback as his starter for the game. Osweiler hasn’t gotten many first-team reps in training camp, but he played the best in the team’s scrimmage on Friday night and will get an opportunity in the first preseason game. Jackson did add “We are going to see a lot more of all of them this preseason and everyone in that room still has the chance to earn more opportunities and the right to lead our team as the starter when the regular season begins on September 10th.” This QB competition will likely come down to who performs better in the first one or two preseason games.

Kevin White disagrees with receivers coach about film session.
On Monday, Bears receivers coach Zach Azzanni said he had White watch film from his dominant 2014 in college at West Virginia to show him and remind him “how great he is.” It was seen as building confidence for the young receiver, but White has a different story, saying that he, Kendall Wright and Victor Cruz decided to just watch their old college film—a players thing, not a coaches thing. Jeff Dickerson of ESPN described White as being “tense” and “bristled” at the thinking of him needing to watch his old college film to remind him how good he can be, while disagreeing with Azzanni’s account of the situation. This shouldn’t be an issue moving forward, but maybe it’ll motivate White even more after he had his first two seasons derailed by injuries.

Jay Gruden says Jordan Reed’s visit to a specialist yesterday didn’t reveal anything “earth-shattering.”
Gurden said “everything looked pretty good” from the visit, but they still aren’t sure when Reed will be back. Gruden also said he hopes he’s back for the first game (it’s unclear if he meant first preseason game or for the regular season), but they aren’t going to rush him back until he’s 100%, while adding it could be next week—they don’t know. It’s probably safe to say the tight end will be back well for the regular season, but Kirk Cousins fantasy outlook takes a hit if he isn’t.

The Jets are placing Quincy Enunwa on IR, according to Adam Schefter.
Enunwa suffered a neck injury a few days ago and will now miss the entire season. It’s terrible news for Enunwa, who was looking to emerge as the Jets’ number one receiver this season. The Jets have a receiving corps full of young guys that will now look to emerge as the top receiver in the group. Robby Anderson might be the favorite to be the team’s top option, but watch out for rookies ArDarius Stewart from Alabama and Chad Hansen from Cal—third- and fourth-round picks, respectively.

Mo Alie-Cox clears waivers.
The former VCU basketball player now reverts to the Colts’ Injured Reserve. This will be a bit of a redshirt year for Alie-Cox, who could have a bright future in the league.

Joe Fann of the 49ers’ official website writes “Carlos Hyde continues to be the team’s No. 1 back.”
There has been talk of Hyde not being atop the Niners’ depth chart, but it looks like he is. Durability has been the only concern with Hyde’s game, as he’s produced whenever he’s been on the field and healthy. While he might not get 20+ carries per game with Tim Hightower and others also in the team’s backfield, he’ll probably be the lead back as he enters the final year of his rookie contract. The Shanahan run game can be lethal, so Hyde does have the upside as a great RB1 in 2017, but he’s someone to keep an eye on this preseason to make sure he’s the clear lead back entering the season.

Rob Gronkowski is working at Tom Brady’s TB12 Sports Therapy Center.
Gronk told Karen Guregian of the Boston Herald a couple days ago that he’s working with Alex Guerrero, Tom Brady’s body coach. You don’t need to know a lot about the TB12 method to know this should be very helpful in helping Rob Gronkowski stay healthy—just watch Tom Brady throw the ball and play as well as ever at soon-to-be-40-years-old and it tells you all you need to know about what he’s doing with TB12. After practice today, Gronkowski tweeted “That was a hot practice today… hydration all day to get ready for tomorrow”. Hydration is an integral part of Brady’s method, and it should help prevent Gronkowski from sustaining soft tissue injuries. Obviously, broken bones and other things will happen, especially with the big tight end taking some huge hits with the way he plays, but Gronk adopting Brady’s method should be seen as a major positive for the outlook of his health.
