Join now >The Dolphins have reached out to Jay Cutler, according to Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald.
Salguero reports Dolphins head coach Adam Gase “has been in contact with Cutler personally the pasty two days.” This isn’t a surprise, as Gase and Cutler have a prior relationship from when Gase was Cutler’s offensive coordinator in 2015. Gase has been a vocal supporter of the unfairly criticized quarterback, and probably thinks Cutler can help the Dolphins win games. Obviously, nothing will happen until a decision is made about Ryan Tannehill and his knee; but the interest appears to be mutual, as Cutler reportedly would consider returning only for Gase and the Dolphins.

The Texans “absolutely love what they have seen from Deshaun Watson,” according to Ian Rapoport.
Rapoport says the team always liked Watson’s ability, but they are “blown away” with Watson’s work ethic, noting that he’s always the first one on the field and takes a lot of notes. Watson’s work ethic is legendary from his days at Clemson, where he helped push the program to the next level while winning a national championship. The Texans have been committed to Tom Savage as their starter to open the year, even after they traded up and drafted Watson. Savage is experienced and can certainly play well as the Texans’ starter, but if the rookie is really impressing them this much both mentally and physically, it might be difficult to keep him off the field. Either way, it’s looking like the Texans quarterback situation should not hold the team back moving forward.

Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians told reporters that starters won’t play at all in the Hall of Fame game.
We already knew that Carson Palmer and Larry Fitzgerald weren’t playing, but now David Johnson and everyone else will sit out, too. This shouldn’t come as a surprise and it’s probably good for fantasy owners—and the players themselves—to avoid injury. Unfortunately, this does make the Thursday’s first preseason game less intriguing, but the starters would have played a series (at most) anyway. Arizona will likely be cautious in managing the reps of their aging and key players throughout the entire preseason.

John Ross avoids the PUP list to start training camp.
The 4.22-speed receiver is still rehabbing from shoulder surgery, but the fact that he’s not on the PUP list could mean he’ll be ready to hit the field sometime soon. NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo says Ross “should see preseason action,” though, so maybe he isn’t that close to action. Ross gaining chemistry with his quarterback Andy Dalton is important. While he has great ability and is more than just a deep threat, he might not be used as much more than that to open the season if he isn’t ready to practice soon, with other receivers in a talented group that are ready to take reps with Dalton and the first-team offense. Ross’ recovery is something to watch this preseason.

Sterling Shepard is day-to-day with his ankle injury.
The MRI on Shepard’s ankle showed it was just a low ankle sprain. The second-year receiver added that he didn’t cry, as was reported when he was injured. He should be fine.

Tyler Eifert is not on the Bengals PUP list to start training camp.
This is great for Efiert, who is looking to stay healthy after playing in only eight games last season while battling back issues. We saw in 2015 the type of touchdown upside Eifert has, when he scored 13 touchdowns in 15 games. While the Bengals have more weapons around him in 2017, he still offers double-digit touchdown potential if he stays healthy. Eifert’s ADP is currently in around the 8th round.

Texans head coach Bill O’Brien praises rookie quarterback Deshaun Watson.
O’Brien said “Deshaun is ahead of any rookie quarterback I’ve ever been around.” O’Brien hasn’t been around a first-round rookie QB like Watson was, but it’s still notable because O’Brien said his quarterback still had a way to go in the offseason. The progress Watson has made stems from his great work ethic—he’s reportedly the first player on the field every day and studies non-stop. Also, O’Brien isn’t someone that’s going to praise someone for no reason, so we can take this compliment seriously. Tom Savage started training camp as the starter and could lead the team, but it might be hard to keep the accomplished college quarterback off the field. Don’t be surprised if Watson delivers fantasy value as a rookie if he hits the field.
