Giovani Bernard | Retired RB

Giovani Bernard is not on PUP; expected to be ready for training camp on Friday.

Bernard was able to participate some through the offseason, despite tearing his ACL on November 20 of last year. It’s great that he won’t have to start training camp on the PUP list as he looks to compete for a good amount of playing time with Cincinnati. The Bengals have supremely talented rookie Joe Mixon, along with productive back Jeremy Hill, in the backfield, so competition will be heavy. They are all likely to have roles, and Bernard might have a big role in the passing game, but it wouldn’t be surprising to see Mixon emerge as a near-workhorse in 2017.

Travis Kelce | Chiefs TE

Travis Kelce had swelling in his knee, head coach Andy Reid said.

The star tight end didn’t practice today, but Reid said “he’ll be fine.” There’s no reason to be too alarmed yet, but it’s unclear what’s causing the swelling. Kelce has appeared in 48 straight games for the Chiefs.

Jamaal Charles | Retired RB

Broncos head coach Vance Joseph says Jamaal Charles is “cleared for everything.”

Joseph said while Charles is cleared, they’ll be smart and want him ready and fresh for the season. Charles will split reps between the first, second, and third teams throughout training camp. The team might want to see him in preseason action, but it is possible they hold him out of those games. There’s been speculation Charles might not make the team, but we would anticipate him making the roster and being a big contributor if healthy. The 30-year-old back averages 5.5 yards per carry, the highest in NFL history for running backs.

Breshad Perriman | Free Agent WR

Ravens receiver Breshad Perriman left practice after a leg tweak.

Perriman pulled up on a route and “appeared to tweak something in his right leg,” according to Jeff Zrebiec of the Baltimore Sun. Zrebiec did also add it looks relatively minor, so hopefully Perriman can get back on the field soon.

Trevor Siemian | Free Agent QB

Trevor Siemian will run with the first team offense on the first day of training camp.

Broncos head coach Vance Joseph says Siemian will run with the first team when the team opens camp, but they will rotate each day. So, Paxton Lynch will get the first-team reps on Friday for day two of Broncos camp, and they’ll keep switching until a starter is named. Joseph also said he’ll talk to executive  John Elway, OC Mike McCoy, and QB coach Bill Musgrave, but it’s ultimately his decision on who the starter will be. It’s 50/50 as to who will be under center for the Broncos to start the season.

Alshon Jeffery | Free Agent WR

Eagles head coach Doug Pederson said Alshon Jeffery’s shoulder is “fine.”

Pederson said his receiver will play in the team’s first preseason game on Thursday, but Jeffery didn’t practice again for what Pederson said was a “rest day.” A little odd to give someone a rest day when they haven’t practiced since Saturday, but it is what it is. Jeffery needs to get his timing with quarterback Carson Wentz heading into the season.

Mike Glennon | Free Agent QB

Bears GM Ryan Pace: “Mike Glennon is our starting quarterback.”

Chicago gave Glennon $18.5 million guaranteed in free agency, but selected UNC’s Mitchell Trubisky with the second overall pick in the draft. Trubisky is seen by many as someone that can step right in and play, but the team has been clear of their commitment to Mike Glennon to start the year. Of course, things can change of the rookie Trubisky lights it up throughout training camp and the preseason and is too good to keep off the field—like what Russell Wilson did as a rookie in Seattle. But Glennon is the heavy favorite to be the Bears’ starter in Week 1.
