Ezekiel Elliott contract reportedly “not close.”

At least four different reports over the weekend made it seem as if it was just a matter of time before Elliott and the Cowboys completed a contract extension, but NFL Network’s Jane Slater says she hears the deal is not close and that “everything” is holding up the deal (the same answer she received last month). The clock is ticking on Zeke getting in the building on time to be able to play in Week 1, and he’d likely need a deal done by late tomorrow to play against the Giants this Sunday—though he’s probably already in danger of not playing now after missing all summer while holding out. Those still drafting should downgrade Elliott slightly, as he’s a risky selection in the top five.

The Cardinals cut Chad Williams.

This is not surprising after the head coach change for the Cardinals and a bunch of new receivers added during the offseason. Williams was just a third-round pick in 2016, and he shouldn’t have much trouble landing with another squad.

Stefon Diggs (hamstring) is officially listed as questionable for Week 1.

We would think Diggs will be good to go for the Vikings, but soft tissue injuries like this can be tricky. The good news is that Minnesota plays in the early games on Sunday, so his status will be known ahead of when most leagues have to make lineup decisions. Diggs will be a near must-start if he’s active against the Falcons.

The Saints have released Devine Ozigbo.

Ozigbo is a candidate for the practice squad, as the team will move forward with Dwayne Washington as the No. 3 back behind Alvin Kamara and Latavius Murray. Despite his release, the undrafted rookie remains a name to watch in dynasty leagues.

The Bills signed Davis Webb to the practice squad.

The 2017 third-round pick of the Giants was just with the Jets—the Week 1 opponent of the Bills. Webb will remain in the New York area with Buffalo as looks to develop on the practice squad.

The Rams cut Brandon Allen.

Allen can sling the ball around, and teams might like that he spent some time with Sean McVay. It shouldn’t take long for him to find a new team.

Jordan Reed (concussion) is officially questionable for Week 1.

Reed remains in concussion protocol, but he’s at least been able to practice on a limited basis this week, indicating he’s close to getting cleared. The Redskins play in the early games on Sunday, so Reed’s status will be known by 11:30 AM ET on gameday.
