On June 1, our fantasy football draft guide will be released as both a book for physical purchase and as a free PDF if you are a Fantasy Consigliere member. Below is a preview with a write up on new Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels, and the first preview (the introduction) can be read here.
11. Jayden Daniels, WAS
2023 statistics (CFB): 72.2%, 3,812 YDS, 40 TD, 4 INT | 135 ATT, 1,134 YDS, 10 TD
2024 projections: 66.2%, 3,610 YDS, 23 TD, 8 INT | 110 ATT, 605 YDS, 5 TD
Daniels put up video-game numbers last year at LSU on his way to winning the Heisman Trophy and rising to be the No. 2 pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, and the rushing upside immediately puts him in the low-end QB1 range as a rookie. There are still questions about the overall roster for Washington (particularly the holes at offensive tackle), but they have two really good wide receivers in Terry McLaurin and Jahan Dotson, and we can’t overstate the damage Daniels can do on the ground. As the rookie stated himself after being drafted, those unfamiliar with his game should watch him last year versus Florida when he became the first player in FBS history to pass for 350+ yards and rush for 200+ yards in a single game. Similar to Anthony Richardson last year (who happened to occupy this QB11 spot), the primary concern is about durability, and Daniels needs to learn to avoid some of the crushing hits he took at LSU, especially considering his thin build; but when he’s on the field, there is instant team-carrying upside if opponents aren’t able to contain Daniels as a runner.
