2024 Fantasy Consigliere Draft Guide Preview: Running Back

Following up on last week’s fantasy football draft guide preview at quarterback, this week’s preview provides our write up on Travis Etienne Jr. entering his third season. Also, our full season projections are now available for Fantasy Consigliere members.

9. Travis Etienne Jr., JAX

2023 statistics: 267 ATT, 1,008 YDS, 11 TD | 58 REC, 476 YDS, 1 TD

2024 projections: 244 ATT, 1,102 YDS, 10 TD | 57 REC, 491 YDS, 2 TD

Coming off an overall RB3 finish, Etienne could very well make a case to be included somewhere in the RB2 through RB8 range of options we consider excellent targets in Round 1—especially because he’s a player we have been high on since he was at Clemson by ranking him as our No. 6 overall prospect in the 2021 NFL Draft. Also, the Jaguars loading up on field-stretchers in Brian Thomas Jr. and Gabe Davis should create much lighter boxes for Etienne a year after averaging just 3.9 yards per carry. Furthermore, it was encouraging to see the Jaguars trust Etienne with heavy workloads last season, and the win over the Bills in London showed his full potential with 26 carries, 136 rushing yards, two rushing touchdowns, four receptions, 48 receiving yards, and a two-point conversion. The reason to have him a tier below those above him is a history of inconsistency from running backs in Doug Pederson’s offense, and last year’s third-rounder Tank Bigsby could cut into Etienne’s workload a bit after he wasn’t really a factor as a rookie.
