Join now >Justin Fields will start in Week 18.
After missing the past two games with an ankle injury, Fields will start the final game of the season for the Bears this Sunday at Minnesota. This is expected to be Fields’ final game under Matt Nagy before a new coaching staff is brought in this offseason.
The Titans designated Derrick Henry (foot) for return from injured reserve.
This move was fully expected, but now it’s official, as Henry will hit the practice field today. The hope is that the Titans will secure a first-round bye this Sunday and get the monstrous runner for their first playoff game in a few weeks, but Henry returning to practice this early in the week could be an indication that he’s closer to playing than anticipated. Putting him out there against the Texans in Week 18 seems unlikely, but Titans team reporter Jim Wyatt did tweet a picture of the all-white uniforms the team will be wearing this week via a picture featuring Henry. All that said, Tennessee has 21 days before they must activate Henry or keep him on IR for the rest of the season. We’ll see how he responds in practice and will hopefully see the superstar runner out there sometime this month.
Joe Burrow will not play in Week 18.
Most teams are playing their starters in the regular season finale, but it appears the Bengals will not be one of them after winning the AFC North last week. Playoff seeding is still at stake this weekend, so it’s interesting that the Bengals are not worrying much about that and will instead rest ahead of the postseason. Coming off a serious knee injury as a rookie and returning in time for Week 1 this year, Burrow completed 70.4% of his passes and threw for 4,611 yards, 34 touchdowns, and 14 interceptions along with 40 carries for 118 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns. There was some inconsistency and a stretch with interceptions, but Burrow really came alive over the past two weeks, throwing for 525 yards and 446 yards (with four touchdowns in each game). Burrow will now look to lead the Bengals to a deep playoff run and championship.
Kirk Cousins has cleared COVID protocols.
Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer says that Cousins is back in the building, so that means he’s being taken off the reserve/COVID-19 list. Minnesota is unfortunately now out of playoff contention, but Cousins should be leading his team in the regular season finale this week versus the Bears.
Washington activated Antonio Gibson from the reserve/COVID-19 list.
Gibson missed one game while on the COVID list, but he’s back for the regular season finale this Sunday against the Giants. While Gibson has been banged up this season, we expect he’ll play in Week 18. The second-year running back is 109 yards away from 1,000 rushing yards on the year.
