Week 5 Fantasy Football Rankings

If you’re looking for fantasy help, our weekly rankings are a great asset to use when making your decisions. These rankings are for standard leagues. But it’s not that complicated to use them for PPR; simply give a bump to guys that will catch more passes (like David Johnson, Julian Edelman). We’ll update these rankings throughout the week if there are any changes/news that comes along.

QUARTERBACK:

  1. Tom Brady (@ CLE)
  2. Aaron Rodgers (vs NYG)
  3. Ben Roethlisberger (vs NYJ)
  4. Cam Newton (vs TB)
  5. Philip Rivers (@ OAK)
  6. Andrew Luck (vs CHI)
  7. Derek Carr (vs SD)
  8. Matt Ryan (@ DEN)
  9. Matthew Stafford (vs PHI)
  10. Carson Wentz (@ DET)
  11. Andy Dalton (@ DAL)
  12. Brian Hoyer (@ IND)
  13. Kirk Cousins (@ BAL)

  17. Sam Bradford (vs HOU)
  18. Ryan Tannehill (vs TEN)
  19. Jameis Winston (@ CAR)
  20. Tyrod Taylor (@ LA)

Tom Brady is the #1 option for this week, and probably every week from now on… Keep an eye on Cam Newton and Carson Palmer this week, as they are both dealing with concussions. If active, both can be started as usual in good matchups [Update: Palmer is inactive]… Derek Carr is the #4 QB through 4 weeks… Matt Ryan has a tough draw in Denver, but is fantasy’s #1 player by a large margin… Brian Hoyer is a better option than some more well-known names.

  37. Orleans Darkwa (@ GB)
  38. Kenneth Dixon (vs WAS)
  39. Chris Thompson (@ BAL)
  40. Matt Asiata (vs HOU)

David Johnson should have a huge workload this Thursday night… DeMarco Murray is fantasy’s #1 RB so far… Melvin Gordon gets another tremendous matchup against Oakland… Jordan Howard has quickly emerged as a solid play. He’s a top-10 option against Indy’s soft defense this week… Latavius Murray would be even higher if he got more carries, but the matchup makes him a high-end RB2… Houston’s defense can be scary with or without J.J. Watt, but have actually not been great versus the run this year. Jerick McKinnon could be Minnesota’s best chance of moving the ball agains the Texans’ #1 pass defense… Devonta Freeman has a tough matchup, but Tevin Coleman (sickle cell trait) could see little-to-no playing time in the high Denver altitude… The gameflow should work in Duke Johnson’s favor as opposed to Isaiah Crowell this week versus New England.

  2. A.J. Green (@ DAL)

  6. Mike Evans (@ CAR)
  7. Brandon Marshall (@ PIT)
  8. Julian Edelman (@ CLE)
  9. Kelvin Benjamin (vs TB)
  10. Odell Beckham Jr. (@ GB)
  11. Marvin Jones (vs PHI)
  12. Travis Benjamin (@ OAK)
  13. Amari Cooper (vs SD)
  14. Michael Crabtree (vs SD)

  47. Brian Quick (vs BUF)
  48. Jeremy Kerley (vs ARI)
  49. Devin Funchess (vs TB)
  50. Terrance Williams (vs CIN)

Antonio Brown is the #1 option whether or not Darrelle Revis (hamstring) plays… Jordy Nelson and the Packers will look to pick up where they left off before the bye week this Sunday night… Julian Edelman vaults into WR1 status with his friend’s return… John Brown is a high-end WR2 after finally being featured last week, but is a low-end WR2 if Carson Palmer (concussion) sits… Michael Crabtree caught 3 touchdowns last week, and could have another big day with Amari Cooper likely to see Jason Merrett [Update: Verrett is out with a partially torn ACL; Cooper moves up]… DeAndre Hopkins has a tough matchup with Xavier Rhodes and the Vikings… Emmanuel Sanders could see softer coverage if Desmond Trufant is on Demaryius ThomasStefon Diggs has been quiet for two weeks in a row, and now faces the stingy Texans pass defense… Phillip Dorsett got free for a 64-yard touchdown last week in London and gets to face the Bears in Week 5… Eddie Royal has shown good chemistry with Brian Hoyer, and Alshon Jeffery is likely to see Vontae Davis… Though he’s just a rookie himself, Tajae Sharpe could take advantage of facing two rookie corners for the Dolphins.

TIGHT END:

  1. Rob Gronkowski (@ CLE)
  2. Greg Olsen (vs TB)
  3. Delanie Walker (@ MIA)
  4. Jordan Reed (@ BAL)

  17. Gary Barnidge (vs NE)
  18. Jason Witten (vs CIN)
  19. Charles Clay (@ LA)
  20. Lance Kendricks (vs BUF)

Rob Gronkowski is the no-doubt #1 TE with Tom Brady’s return. He will be unleashed sooner or later, and Martellus Bennett also moves up with Brady’s return… Zach Ertz makes his return this week against the Lions, who are among the worst in the league at defending tight ends… Zach Miller has been great since Brian Hoyer took over… Hunter Henry will be a solid play again if Antonio Gates (hamstring) sits again… Virgil Green is a good streaming option against a Falcons team bleeding points to tight ends… Tyler Eifert makes his return, but he is not a must-start in his first game of the season [Update: Eifert is not expected to play this week after injuring his back in practice].

DEFENSE:

  1. Minnesota Vikings (vs HOU)
  2. New England Patriots (@ CLE)
  3. Carolina Panthers (vs TB)
  4. Denver Broncos (vs ATL)
  5. Los Angeles Rams (vs BUF)
  6. Arizona Cardinals (@ SF)
  7. Philadelphia Eagles (@ DET)

  12. Houston Texans (@ MIN)
  13. Baltimore Ravens (vs WAS)
  14. Atlanta Falcons (@ DEN)
  15. Indianapolis Colts (vs CHI)

Minnesota has been scary good… The Patriots should dominate on Sunday coming off a shutout loss and facing a rookie quarterback… Denver is still a top-5 option at home, but Matt Ryan is their biggest challenge yet… The Eagles should be well-rested to get after Matthew Stafford.

  1. Stephen Goskowski (@ CLE)
  2. Mason Crosby (vs NYG)
  3. Justin Tucker (vs WAS)
