2018 Heisman Watch (Week 6)

Jonathan Taylor had a week off but still tops the 2018 Heisman Trophy Watch heading into October.

1. Jonathan Taylor | Wisconsin RB | Sophomore | Last week: 1

Off last weekend, Wisconsin’s star running back could be in store for a heavy workload this weekend against Nebraska. A 200-yard performance is a legit possibility, and Taylor is already up to 628 rushing yards through just four games this season.

Season stats:

102 ATT | 628 YDS | 6.2 AVG | 5 TD

5 REC | 20 YDS | 4.0 AVG

2. Trace McSorley | Penn State QB | RS Senior | Last week: 3

Penn State lost a heartbreaker to Ohio State in Trace McSorley’s first ever home loss as the starter, but McSorley was clearly the best player on the field that night. While a win certainly would have been a big boost in the Heisman race, a loss shouldn’t do much to harm his chances. It’s a shame the ball wasn’t put in his hands on Penn State’s final offensive play.

Season stats:

53.2% | 1,050 YDS | 10 TD | 2 INT

66 ATT | 410 YDS | 6.2 AVG | 6 TD

3. Dwayne Haskins | Ohio State QB | RS Sophomore | Last week: 4

It wasn’t the prettiest performance of Dwayne Haskins’ career, but he toughed it out in a whiteout and helped lead Ohio State to a comeback victory. Haskins is clearly among the top Heisman Trophy candidates in the nation heading into the second month of the season.

Season stats:

70.8% | 1,464 YDS | 19 TD | 2 INT

14 ATT | 36 YDS | 2.6 AVG | TD

4. Tua Tagovailoa | Alabama QB | Sophomore | Last week: 2

Alabama is rolling over people, which is giving Tua Tagovailoa less opportunities to put up numbers than he otherwise would. Tagovailoa was a perfect 8-for-8 with a couple of scores in the Crimson Tide’s blowout win over the weekend.

Season stats:

75.0% | 1,161 YDS | 14 TD

20 ATT | 115 YDS | 5.8 AVG | 2 TD

5. Kyler Murray | Oklahoma QB | Senior | Last week: NR

Kyler Murray leapfrogs Will Grier for a top-five spot in the Heisman Trophy Watch. Grier continues to play great, but Murray’s six-touchdown performance after sitting out the first series is tough to ignore. Murray is averaging an absurd 13.4 yards per attempt and already has 21 total touchdowns this season.

Season stats:

70.6% | 1,460 YDS | 17 TD | 3 INT

46 ATT | 285 YDS | 6.2 AVG | 4 TD
