Strengths

Elite first-step on the interior. High motor. Top-notch acceleration. Very versatile. Can play everywhere on the line except for nose tackle. Has the bend and athleticism to blow by offensive linemen. Excellent pursuit with the quarterback in his sights. Will put his body on the line to make a tackle. Hands are violent and effective. Aggressively works down the line as a backside defender. Has the ability to consistently play lower than his competition. Good toughness and football character.

Weaknesses

Technique needs to be refined. Stronger blockers can move him off the spot. Too reliant on overall athleticism and quickness. Needs a plan when he doesn’t win with burst. Arm length is merely average.

NFL Comparisons

Cameron Jordan – Derek Wolfe – Robert Nkemdiche

Conclusion

Taven Bryan is a quick-twitch defensive lineman that has the potential to live in the backfield if he puts everything together. I think a defensive scheme that uses multiple fronts will find a way to get the best out of him.
