Strengths

Prototypical slasher with exceptional smoothness in the open field. Above-average speed with great feet. Can break down in space to change direction. Makes cuts with no wasted movement. Gets north and keeps his shoulders square. Shows good patience on outside runs. Able to work through traffic and accelerate out of it. Recognizes the cutback lane and has the moves to beat a backside defender. Willing to lower his pads and take on tacklers to pick up extra yardage. Shows promise as a pass-catcher and blocker. Takes care of the football.

Weaknesses

Overall vision and patience behind the line of scrimmage needs improvement. Will sometimes run into his blockers instead of seeing an opening. Might not have top-end breakaway speed at the next level. Not an elite route-runner.

NFL Comparisons

Jamaal Charles – Melvin Gordon – Dalvin Cook

Conclusion

He doesn’t have quite the speed that Jamaal Charles did in his prime, but Ronald Jones is a similar runner with great quickness, acceleration, and overall ability in the open field. It would be surprising if he wasn’t off the board early on Day 2.
