Strengths

Big-bodied tight end with soft hands. Above-average speed. Proven receiving option from the slot. Elite target in the red zone. Very intelligent. Finds the hole in zone coverage. Overall field awareness is excellent. Runs crafty routes. Adjusts his body to make a catch. Can box out defenders to provide a security blanket for his quarterback. Feet are light and quick for his size. Great wiggle and suddenness in the open field to evade defenders. Doesn’t like to go down or out of bounds.

Weaknesses

Simply wasn’t asked to block very often in college. Didn’t show much when he did block. Might not be able to separate consistently against man coverage against NFL athletes. Needs to learn how to play as an in-line tight end. Benefitted from facing defenses from the Big 12.

NFL Comparisons

Jason Witten – Hunter Henry – Jared Cook

Conclusion

Mark Andrews was an extremely productive slot option at Oklahoma, but I think he has the ability to be a dynamic, all-around tight end if a coaching staff can get the best out of him as a blocker and in-line receiver. I would want him to try to replicate his game after Jason Witten’s.
