Strengths

Heat-seeking missile in space. Makes plays from sideline to sideline. Aggressive tackler that rarely misses. Great explosiveness and change-of-direction skills. Has the speed to overcome bad pursuit angles. Fills the hole in short-yardage situations. Excellent timing and burst as a blitzer. Gets to the quarterback up the middle or off the edge. Uses subtle movements to beat blockers. Stays patient as a quarterback spy. Can flip his hips and run in coverage. Quick to defend running backs in the flat. Tough and competitive. Solid frame. One of the youngest players in the draft.

Weaknesses

Reaction time and instincts are a step slow. Poor eye discipline. Too easily fooled on zone reads. Struggles to disengage against size. Can get absorbed by traffic. Takes bad angles. Sometimes caught flat-footed in coverage.

NFL comparison

Ryan Shazier – The two inches Shazier has on Devin Bush isn’t a big deal, as the two are similar as athletic, aggressive linebackers that fit perfectly in a scheme like Pittsburgh’s.

Conclusion

Overall, Devin Bush has all the tools to be a star at the next level, but he’s much more comfortable attacking than reacting, which puts him clearly below Devin White for me. Whoever drafts Bush will hopefully have a strong defensive line in place to allow him to come in and roam free to make plays.
